Clutch pedal- should it hit the floor?

Hi,

I finally got the z-bar and everything put in right and my 68 drives ok. The clutch pedal does NOT go all the way to the floor. Is this correct? Also, is there supposed to be a rubber bumper to stop the pedals travel at the bottom? My car doesn't have one, but I've recently seen some available, kind of a "T" shaped thing

Thanks!

i'm not sure, mine will go till it touches the floor. the only rubber stop on mine is when the pedal is in the full released position.  i am running a diaphram clutch though, what are you running?

when does the clutch engage in the travel?  the pedal should go to the floor, yes.  I worry that you'd push the pressure plate over center.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I'm worried about the extra travel too. I'm the only one that wil drive the car so as long as I'm careful it should be ok.

What would I do to fix it? Do I need a longer rod from the pedal to the z-bar?

I have an oddball setup. The car has a slant six ( I know, I know, motors too small) and it originally had a 3 speed on the floor. I put in an A833OD. I got the z-bar stuff from a guy on craigslist. It came out of a b-body car, I'm told. We had to modify the z-bar to get it to work, and the result is the reduced pedal travel.

Also, I see the rubber bumper now at the top of the pedal. Sure is dark under the dash! Didn't notice it the first time.

Thanks again!

i'd run questions about rods and Z bars past someone like Brewer's Performance.  Wayne and crew probably have that stuff memorized.

and get some "feather Charger" stickers made up  ;)

I had to put a bigger lever on the z-bar, the one that attaches to the clutch rod. It needed to be longer with a bend on the end. We cut it off of a z bar from a dodge truck. I talked to Jamie Passon about it, thats where I bought the clutch rod kit and the shift linkage. He's the only one that makes the shift linkage new for the OD swap apparently. Also bought a nice rechromed shifter handle. Couldn't find a used one anywhere. Pricey, but it's the shiniest part of the car now ;).

He told me that I wouldn't be able to get a correct z bar, so to just mod the one I had. I guess I could have moved the lever that the pedal rod attaches to also. Maybe that's the cure.

"Feather Charger"! I was going to put on a super six manifold and call it the SuperCharger!

Thanks guys,

the z-bar is the same no matter what 833 you are running.  you can get the correct z-bar here- http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=TS914

Is it also the same no matter what bellhousing/motor combo?

Thanks
