A week or so ago some out of the country dude called my house but because I was out, I couldn't answer the phone and he didn't leave a message. Didn't pay attention.
This weekend at 11am (the same guy?) stood on my door step. Again I was out doing a job for some extra $.
The room mate was home and she answered the man:

'' I am here to check out the red Charger that the man (me) has for sale... I saw the ad on the internet...''

''Sorry to tell you but the only Charger, the brown one he had for sale was sold last year. His current red Charger isn't for sale'' answered the roomie.

'' OK, so when I am in the neighborhood, I just drop by, I allready know the guy (me).'' he replied.

She didn't take a name or phone number.  :brickwall:

I had my ride for sale for a very short period, here on DC.com and local in Las Vegas.

This is something that I really don't like. Guys who pretend to know me, coming to look at my Charger 'for sale'.

So to be clear: MY CAR IS NOT FOR SALE! AND DUDE, NEVER COME TO MY DOOR UNANNOUNCED!

End rant  :icon_smile_angry:

BTW, my Charger is on blocks, full front end out for rebuild. Plus it isn't licenced yet so I don't drive her nor do I attend any shows. Nobody has seen my car. :scratchchin:

Boy!!!  If I had a nickel for everytime that has happened.  The one I remember most, was a guy who knocked on my door, claims he "used to have one just like it" wants to know if it's for sale, keeping in mind this guy is on a rusty bicycle collecting aluminum cans, unshaven....not to mention this guy was so unclean and dirty, his clothes had developed a shine to them.  Like this guy has even seen in his lifetime the amount of cash he would have to come up with...oh yes...and claiming his had a "440 Hemi"....I said..."there is no such animal out of the factory you moron....Do you see a for sale sign on it?....no....ride your happy ass off my lawn."  Some people's children....

easiest way is to hide it in garage. I haven't had any "offers" since then

Had one about two years ago stop in. I wasn't home, was helping a relative out. Left a note on the door with number asking about the car. I returned the call.. and kinda mention to him that it was not for sale but he kapt on asking. Well I went over to my relative for afew days to help out.. I get a call  :o from the dude. Asking me yet again if the car is for sale. I said in front of my cousin's "no". Well then not maybe an hour goes by I get another phone call from him asking the same thing and yet I say the same thing also. Well about 2 days later I return home and there is a call on my michine. Well to make the least.. the guy offers me $400.00 and keeps calling the car a Challenger (And on the grill was a badge that reads "Charger")!  :smilielol: . I told him no the car isn't for sale and hung up.

Then had another guy calling me and then came out and offered me $600.00  :o ::). I almost ask him what fender would he like.

I'd definitely have some trepidation about such visits.  If I were you I'd be watching my car very closely.

This Charger right here is a one of none, that means none before it, none to come.

I haven't had offers to buy but we get tons of folks stop by to look at my sons charger. Not in a weird or scary way, just friendly folks who like chargers and want to check it out. I could see it would be different if someone hassles you like that.

Not exactly the same situation but an offer to buy nonetheless:

I bought my first Charger back in March of this year. Like my other projects, I bought it to my mechanic who has done very good work over the past few years since I have known him. The car is in good shape for its age but there were things here and there that needed to be fixed. I also have a '69 firebird that he's been doing work for me. The firebird is in great mechanical shape but the body needs a lot of metal work. With the minimal rust and the good mechanical condition I would say the Charger is definitely the better car out of the two.

The other day after picking up my firebird the mechanic was talking about how hard it is to have more than one project and that my firebird is a great car and all it needs is metal work and paint and it's good to go. I then told him that I was planning on doing the Charger first because it seems to require less work. Then he says, 'Are you serious? Your Charger is in a lot worse shape than the firebird. It has more rust than the firebird!' Meanwhile, I'm sitting there wondering what in the blue hell this guy is talking about.

Now here comes the kicker:

After telling me about how it's expensive to have more than one project and how the Charger is in worse shape out of all my projects he tells me I should probably sell one of them. He also said that if I sell the firebird I could probably get about 10k-12k for it and if I sell the Charger I could probably get, at best, 5k-8K for it. He then goes on to tell me that 'he already has a 1967 Camaro (this part is true along with a 1970 Monte Carlo) so he wouldn't be interested in the firebird' but he 'might have some interest in the Charger'.

Mind you, it's only a 318 but it's a matching numbers car. I know for a fact I can get more than 8K for it. I didn't say anything to him but after that talk I was disgusted to my stomach. As far as I'm concerned, he does great work but don't ever try to be my friend again....

Before I moved to my new house, my Charger sat outside.  It barely fit inthe one car garage.  At about 2:00 am one night I got up to go to the bath room, looked out my back window and saw some guy "sneaking" around the front end of my Charger.  I instantly grabbed my service weapon, my sandals, and headed outback.  As I turned the corner I saw the guy trying to open the driver's side door (it was locked).  I raised my pistol and ordered to see his hands, and he about sh!@ himself.  I saw sheer terror in his eyes.  He nervously asked, "Is this Jimmy's old car?"  I promptly told him no.  He told me in a very shakey voice, "Ok, ok I was just wanting to know if it was for sale."  I told him again no, then ordered him to leave.  He didnt hesitate, and took off.

I mean come on.  If he was just looking to see if it was for sale, why at 2:00am?  No, this a$$ was looking for alot more, and he almost got it.  I put the car in the garage after that, didnt want a repeat performance.  I am pretty sure that guy wouldnt be back.  Have kept it in a garage ever since, havent had anymore problems.

I just read your story and I can't believe some of the balls on these assholes. I think at best, if I was in your position, I would have held him there and take down his ID. At worse, I would have kept him there and called your guys at the police station. Either way, I'm glad nothing happened to your Charger but most of all, I'm glad nothing happened to you.

Thanks, I wasnt real concerned about keeping him there.  I was in a pair of shorts, no shirt, sandals, pistol and no phone.  I thought it best for him to just leave.  I figured he hadnt dont anything yet, I didnt have anything to call anyone, so it was best for us both if he left and stayed gone.

So how many of you guys have bought Chargers that you found that were sitting, looking abandoned, in someone's yard or outside on a public street, and you went up to the door and knocked to ask if they were for sale?

I've bought two that way.

sounds like completely different scenarios......if i'm badgered or find someone sneaking around anything on my property at 2 am they'll be lucky to have the capability to leave under their own power.

yes, my story is about some dude who says he knows me, showing up on my doorstep asking to have a look at my Charger, which isn't for sale, but he saw it for sale on the internet. (Wow what a sentence :eek2: )

When I first got married (2000) I had my 69 project (running then) and I had my 69 parts car. Well the first couple of months I got married, they sat behind my parents house and a dude came buy asking about them, well I had mentioned before about maybe selling the parts car so my Mom gave dude my number. Well this guy called and wanted to buy my parts car, I politely told him no, I needed alot of parts for the other car when I started on it. Well we talked mopars a while and that was it.......or so I thought.
Me and my wife lived in a little trailor after we got married and I got the cars moved over there, I put the Project at a friends shop, and began working on it, and put the parts car behind my trailor to start stripping it and getting what I needed off of it. Well dude calls me again says he is buying a 68 but it had no front suspension, so I though hey i can sell you the suspension off the parts car because I didnt need it.....so I made the mistake of telling him where I lived. Well a couple of weeks later out of the blue, he shows up, looks at my parts car, begs me to sell it. I said no, he leaves..... the end of it....I thought.
Ever since then every couple of months or so this goober would call me again "Wanna sell that charger yet" "I wanna make a General Lee" "Blah blah blah".
Over time I had been taking stuff off this car, I had actually cut some of the right quarter and tailpanel to patch the other car.
In another one of his calls wanting to buy it, he said something like..."yeah I seen where you cut the quarter up"...I thought WTF this guys coming around and snooping around my shit while Im not at Home! I finally had to get a little more firm with this asshole.
I bought a house, moved and have a big garage now, and havent heard from this dude since....but Im sure if he ever found me he would start his old shit again, even though I dont have that parts car no more!

The audacity of some people.

Everything is for sale for the right price.

Thats true...but alot of people that do this, dont want to offer you much, are not serious, or dont have a pot to piss in.
