So, I really DON'T have a Pony car, then? :eyes:

Everett, correct me if I'm wrong here, but I didn't know you owned either a "68 or "69 Challenger. :shruggy:

Hell, I didn't even know there was a "68 or a "69 Challenger to be had.   :icon_smile_question:

That's kinda why I made sure to underline that part.   ::)

Silly me for thinking that would bring attention to that important tid bit 'o' info. :D

I'll believe the '09 Challenger will look something like that when I see it on the dealer lot. We all been down this road before with the '06 Charger.............Remember

Looks like even Trevor Creed is onboard with the new Challenger concept car...   :stirthepot:

I may be wrong, but maybe he was joking, it does look like the Camaro concept. But your right, that person is most likely just a moron ;)

But I do have a 67 Barracuda.  Which was one year before they supposedly "became Pony cars in 68."  Even though the 67s were the same generation, and the only performance engine options which were different, were the small blocks.  67 had the 273-4, and 68 had the brand new 340.  How exactly is a 68 a Pony car, and not a 67, Troy?

Well, there are some pictures on the Allpar Challenger page now... seems to be improved versions of the ones on AutoWeek, with more detail visible.  I am not sure if these are the promised better pictures, I was hoping for different photos.

I read 3 replies, stating that they wouldn't buy it, because DCX didn't build a 2 door Charger.   JESUS CHRIST, PEOPLE!   ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUBBORN AND HARD HEADED?   DCX is FINALLY building what you have all been begging for :   good looking, 2 door V-8 RWD performance car, and YOU STILL bitch. :rotz:   You people are impossible.   If DCX had built basically a 69 Charger with modern technology, I bet you STILL would be bitching.   Pathetic.

well i can almost guarantee i will not, so in the great name of Ron White, I will send you some "coupons (pronounced koopuns)" so you can get your beer, if that is indeed the case if I am to be befuddled again by the great DCX propaganda/design team/bigwigs.

TWO THINGS:

1) IF they MASS produce this car (or a very similar version) I see Creeder Sedan Magnum Brick sales going way down...and MANY used Creeders ending up in the used car market.

2) It's funny how EVERYONE all of a sudden is going to own one. I think most of you missed a crucial point made in this Chicago Tribune article originally posted by Telvis:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/chi-0511210024nov21,1,1378248.story?coll=chi-business-hed

(which I read earlier but for some reason is NOW restricted to registered users) which states that Chrysler intends on a limited production run of 5,000 to 10,000 units annually. You see, this is just another bunch of BS from DCX. They create a cool looking car that the masses would want and then limit production, therefor increasing demand and ultimately increasing the price per unit. Good luck owning one...I see this being a Miata fiasco all over again. Another byproduct of limiting sales is that it CAN'T cut into Creeder sales...they simply stack the deck in their favor. >:( I'm so friggin sick of DCX I could puke!! :puke:

. . . 'bout friggin time.      If they don't make an actual close resemblence muscle car for Mopar enthusiasts to enjoy and to compete against the Mustang, they are idiots.     That car looks WAY more like a Challenger than the '06 R/T (rear doors/truck grill) Charger looks like a real Charger.   Just change the rims some, bad car.

:drool5:

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

:yesnod:   The 6.1, 6 speed will probably cost around $40G and not too many of us have that extra green for a summer car.   i dont anyways.

I don't have that kind of money for a modern daily driver car that is for sure. However it is a sweet looking concept car in my opinion. To me it is a car that if they do build it in say 2008, I'll be looking to pick one up in about 2011 or so. After they are about 3 years old I'll be looking to snatch up a used on and have it for a fun car.

Bill...

Chrysler is now so streamlined in its operations that the cites "5-10,000" unit figure means nothing beyond what they figure they're gonna sell.

Chrysler plans on 5-10 thousand units because that's all they figure they'll sell.  The great thing about THIS Chrysler as opposed to the Chrysler of the past is the fact that they have made production of the LX cars (and the next gen "LY" cars) completely flexible (this will eventually be the case with ALL Chrysler vehicles).

If they're selling less Magnums and more Chargers, they can easily build less magnums and have the Chargers take up the slack in the production plant because they are all built on the same assembly line.  The Challenger will be as well.  This means that if they are selling more Challengers than anticipated, they can easily build more of them and build less of whatever else is not selling as well.

Personally, I think they might sell 40,000 of them the first year and then, by the third year of production, they'll be lucky if they're selling 20,000 a year.

As far as price goes, expect prices to remain in lockstep with the Mustang's and Camaro's prices.

I'm thinking...

25-28,000 for the V-6
29-34,000 for the 5.7
35-38,000 for the 6.1
40-43,000 for the 392 (if they produce it)

Keep in mind that MSRP will likely have no bearing on what the shifty, crooked, shyster, thieving bastard dealerships charge.
I ain't got time for pain, the only pain I got time for is the pain i put on fools how don't know what time it is.

RD

nice breakdown on the prices OC.  i would take a v6 or 5.7 no problem.  I already talked to the wife about the car.  I will graduating with my master's next fall and will start working for the VA soon after.  Shouldn't be too long of wait after I start working that the challenger will be produced so it seemed to hit right when I will be making good money in order to purchase it.

stipulations:

1)  if it looks similar to the concept
2)  is in the price range that we desire
3)  if the car meets our expectations after driving it and looking it over

I am more confident than ever that this concept car exists!  One of the Mods on Moparts has well placed friends at DCX and he posted the following on the New Challenger thread on Moparts:

QuoteI have friends in DCX's studio... those pictures are NOT Photoshopped. That IS the real deal concept car. Which is to say, be forwarned... it IS a "concept car", but I betcha' DCX learned their lesson by teasing with one thing and then delivering another.  In other words, I rather doubt they'd make the same mistake twice. One can hope, anyway!

Dale

So for anyone still looking for the lone photochop on the grassy knoll... time to face the fact that this concept car is real!!!

If you like what you have seen so far, contact DCX!!!... they are waiting to hear from you... the decision on whether to build this car is at stake!!!
