whats an easy way to check for functionality of 69 guages???

Tilar

Check out this thread. Lilwendal goes into pretty good detail about how to do it but it's not a "quick easy" way.

just for functionality ( and not exact reading ) feed with a 9 volts for two or three seconds ( not more ) to check if needle simply moves

Knowing that the gauges.Excluding the amp gauge.Take 12 volts through the Instrument voltage regulator. And reduce it to 5 volts if I recall correctly.I would use 2 flashlight batterys.Hooked up with the correct polarity. On whatever gauge studs less the mounting nut.To see if gauge worked at all

Just trying to check gas, oil & temp gauges on several clusters I have & found give or take
12 Ohms across the terminals of each while disconnected.  I then tried Nachos' 9V battery
test & I gotta tell ya:  It was good to see the needles move :drool5:

Naturally, I'll be studying up on actually Calibrating them.....but it IS good to know that
indeed they do work to start with :2thumbs:

to calibrate, and having exact voltage sources, you'll notice gauges have on back some holes and through the holes you'll see small teeths like gears. Those teeths moves the needle supports to move the the needle location.

I do know that before read lilwendal restoration thread, what I didn't know is the resistances needed to make the calibration what I guess works fro 3rd gens too:

Those are the SPECIFIC replies to the small gauges deal... then if you want, read the complete thread... all come from same thread.
