Guy's you can't fix'em all.  :'( We got the trunk open yesterday, just full of crap (and NOT Charger crap)! Cut the chain on the hood, she's got a 340 with M/T covers and an edlebrock manifold, no carb tho. But who ever took the carb off did tape over the intake. I most likely will not be able to dig through the interior till next week. I'll probly need a dumpster!

Man that looks like a good car to part...make some $$$$ to put into other projects. Thats how I fund my projects is selling off parts, or buying a car that needs a little work, then re-selling. You'll probably triple what you paid for it, on eBay/Craigslist.

Engine bay doesn't look too bad.. Is that a "Powered By Ford" valve cover and Ford cylinder head in the interior?? Looks like alot of parts inside that could be sold off for $$ to restore this pup!

You have to save the car.  :Twocents:

It's a very rusty 318 car, what is so special about that? If no one parted any of these out, how would you build the others? If it was a R/T, okay. But it's not.

Funny how everyone always says to save them all, yet if they had them. They would probably part, sell, let sit and rot or something like that. But since they don't own it. You better save it. I personally have cut up several cars much cooler than this, but the parts went to many cool cars. I cut up a 70 runner 383 4spd N96 car. One 1/4 is on a real nice HEMI runner that they wanted OE metal on. The roof is on the same car. I cut up a 66 coronet 500 361 car. One inner fender is going on a 68 Charger R/T and one is going on a 68 GTX. The doors and fenders went to a 67 R/T. The glass and many other parts have went to many other cars. Another was a rust free 74 360 Duster, the 1/4's are going on my 340 Duster, one door is on another Duster and the other is going to be used on a friends dart sport. One fender is also on another Duster. The exhaust manifolds are going on my Gold Duster. The bucket seats Have been recovered and were used in a 71 Demon. The disk brake system is on the front of a 68 Dart GTS 383. The sure grip rear was also used on another 71 Demon. That car has helped at least eight other cars. One car sacrificing its self can help many much rarer cars be put back together. Sometimes it is very worth it. It's just common sense.  :2thumbs: :Twocents: Jeremy

Jeremy, you and I C-I-2-I. THis (from what I've seen sp far) is one rusty turd!  :yesnod: 318 car to boot! But if others can live on with the help of this car  :2thumbs:  :2thumbs: What are you going to do stick 50K + into a ride that will never be worth that...  :brickwall: But I did save it from instant DEATH by going to the shredder! Then NOBODY gets any parts! I will post a few more pics next week. Maybe I'll have some time to dig some of the crap out of it. As  for those ford parts, nothing special that I've seen yet............    stay tuned.........

I understand what you mean, there are clearly some cars out there that are too far gone to fix...but I don't think this is one of them. The way I see it, how the car was originally built should have little to no influence on whether or not it should be saved. If not as many people wanted to see all of them saved then we would have a real shortage of chargers in general. The "base" cars were the most common type so if no one bothered saving them then a lot less people would have chargers today. As I see it, that car isn't so far gone it couldn't be someones affordable project still and therefore has a hope of being saved. Once its cut up (for parts that are essentially all being reproduced at this point), there is one less charger out in the world...even if that means one more got back on the road with "original sheet metal"... :eyes: If we want to see this hobby stick around long enough to be able to show our grandchildren a thing or two, the more projects they have available the better.  :Twocents:

Finn, I understand what you are saying. But looking at that car, just because it is complete doesn't mean it's a savable project. As far as being affordable, have you see the price of the AMD metal? That's not counting putting it on. That car is FAR from affordable. If you think that is to nice to part, you should have seen the 383 68 that we robbed parts off of for my friends 68 R/T. Some people will ONLY use OE metal. Reproduction metal has sucked until AMD. AMD is just real expensive, and worth it.

The beauty of everything is, is that one way or another that car will live on. It may live 20+ lifes, or it may live only one. But it will live on for our Grand kids to see.

Guy's , I gotta say the term "affordable" can be different things to different people. BUT in doing things on my own rides it seems once I get going nothing gets done for under $2500. (Figure I may get some flaak here so I'll explain. My trunk floor had a few pin holes (original floor) ok, new floor section, so then , may as well get a new tank, then straps, then lines, then trunk mat, then braces, then paint, then blah blah blah , one thing turns to the next. And I don't do my own paint work.) I'm going thru the same play now with my interior.   Between parts/time/labor. Now I've seen under the rear of this thing and it is rotten...frame rails included, do I dare say I've parted cleaner cars than this one.  :coolgleamA:

We're gonna have a little fun with this one thats for sure. Who knows what goodies are buried in this thing. But as we go I'll post more pics and everyone can see what develops!

It's a cool find, but I agree, you can't save all of them & this one is rough. There are lots of replacement parts available now, but it still isn't in everyone's budget who wants to restore a car, to restore every car that's dragged out of a barn, swamp, or yard. I've parted out cars in better shape too, but most were long before any parts were available. There are still many parts we all need for our cars that aren't being made, so this car, if parted, will do more to help restore other cars.

Just a few years ago I snagged a 318 Charger that was an incomplete & rough, parts car. I needed all kinds of brackets, trim, retainers, & other stuff that you just can't buy new for my Charger. If you CAN find these things on ebay or the classified ads, it would cost 10 times more buy, & 10 times as long to gather. I then relisted what was left of the shell & tried to sell it for $900, but there was almost no interest. Even though it had one mint, OEM quarter panel & good frame rails, it still needed a lot if it were to be restored.

I made a deal with a friend, delivered it to him, then he cut the rest up for the frame rails he needed & then sold the rest. I thought that with all the people who are hunting for Charger projects, as well as the people who rally behind saving the rough cars, that someone would have wanted this one & stepped up to buy it.  :shruggy:
