TTI headers on INDY EZ-1 heads

I get my brand new headers in from TTI (supposedly a direct bolt-on) and lo and behold I have 4 head studs hitting the bottom of the flanges.  Needless to say these headers will not bolt on without a little grinding.  The heads are INDY's EZ-1's and TTI says they are compatible.  Should I grind some inserts into the flanges or send the headers back?  Has anyone had this same problem?  Thanks again.

for the cost of tti headers i would not be grinding on banging on anything. i would be calling them asap to find out why they do not fit

Head studs...unless you have a raised port head the head studs are always a problem unless you make the headers your self... :Twocents:

Apparantly there are shorter ARP studs made for this type of issue. Others have shortened the studs to get the needed clearance with the TTI headers.

i just looked on tti's site, it says right on the site that the headers WILL NOT fit with head studs

Well that's just wonderful.  Since I had O2 bungs welded in I'm wondering if they'll take them back.  Thanks again guys.

can you just run a head bolt  in those 4 locations on each head?

I had the same problem with my EZ1s and TTI headers.  I just went with ARP Head bolts and everything fits great.  Reality is that unless you are running some sort of forced induction head studs are way overkill.

The motor was built for 8.5 compression so yeah I will be running a blower.  I think this will work:  There is exactly .300" from the top of the stud to the top of the nut.  I'm gonna take off around .280" from the bottom of the stud that screws into the block.  Then re-torque the nuts and the clearance SHOULD be there.  I also thought about running head bolts just in the offending spots but I don't think the sealing will be there.  Wish me luck. :scratchchin:
