To be honest, Eric and Tommy can run circles around Ace and Peter.

probably, but if you're talking about musical skills, no one in KISS was ever really any good and that's not what the band was/is about anyway. Their music is mediocre at best and their studio records sound like crap. Their appeal has always been more about the live shows, and the make up, and the explosions. That's why the best selling records are the ALIVE albums...cuz at least you get to imagine that you're there seeing all that stuff.

I agree with you that KISS's main appeal has been their live show.  However, I do not think people are going to attend a concert when the music is "mediocre at best".  I mean they are still selling out shows.  Yes they have some cheese ball lyrics here and there, but I do think they have a lot of good songs.  I also agree KISS has never been at the top when is comes to musicians.  They have had a few "good" musicians but not really any great talent, with the exception of two drummers.  Through the eighties Eric Carr was considered one of the best drummers out there.  When Eric passed they were lucky enough to get Eric Singer.  Eric Singer still today is a very strong drummer, and can hold his own with todays top drummers. Just my opinion.

that's a pretty reasonable assessment.

Do they play material from the no make up era? IMHO a lot of the stuff they did in the 80's with Eric Carr and the other guitar player dude (I forget his name...Bruce Kulick?) was some of their better material.

For this tour they threw in I Love it Loud, Lick it Up, and Crazy Crazy Nights.  Those are three of my all time favorite KISS songs. They do not do a lot of 80's stuff because they say most people want to hear the stuff from the 70's.  Really?  Did they take a poll?  Personally, I could do without most of their 70's tunes live.  Like you, I feel their music from the 80's is there best.  But, that is the stuff I grew up with.

I saw Roger Waters during the "Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking" Tour.  It was an absolutely awesome show... very powerful.  That man has some serious talent... twisted as he can be at times.
