bull

Any pics or more of a description? Is there a link to an ad? Any rust? All I can say is, based on your quoted price, it had better be in really good shape.

drfangs

here's the link. http://www.cars-on-line.com/37522.html
looks to be one owner, no bondo or bodywork.  im thinking something in the 30's, but its been a long time since i've been around mopars.

I have to agree with Kiwi. Seems to me that $45k is fairly steep. That's getting toward the top end for a non-Hemi R/T and that was a few years ago when things were better.

Dans 68

The price does seem a bit steep, but would be in the ballpark if it were a 4-speed car.  :Twocents:

That air cleaner is wrong.  :P  It looks to be a 3rd gen unit. Makes you wonder what else is wrong. Irregardless I would ask for all the photos they have (should be a lot more than the three posted), along with the build sheet and fender tag information.

:iagree:   It seems all 68, 69 R/T chargers are in the 30's right now.   :Twocents:

Air cleaner is definitely wrong for a '68.  Also engine is painted orange instead of turquoise, makes me think it's not the original engine.  I don't see the underhood equipment for cruise control (was that even an option in '68?).  But it looks like a good body (although you need a lot more pictures and information).  If it is a real Arizona car rust should be minimal!
'68 Charger R/T, numbers matching 440/727
Now with Hensley 496 stroker and Keisler 4-speed auto

Yes, it was an option, at a cost of $52.50.  :icon_smile_wink:

i found more pics and description.  it has pics of the interior.  i called the number but the person who answered didnt know much about it and gave me a different number.  assuming it is original, with excellent body, $35K would be fair or on the high side? http://www.randyshr.com/1968_Charger_For_Sale.html

Dans 68

The car needs to be looked at by someone who know these cars. Do not buy it sight unseen. Ask/hire someone to go over it in detail to understand exactly what you are buying. If it all looks good then mid-30's would be a good price. See http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,52323.msg574221.html#msg574221 to really know what to look for.  When I bought my '68 I flew to Texas and spent an entire day crawling around the car. You cannot be too careful. :2thumbs:

Not a pristine car by far......gauges are yellow. Cracked woodgrain wheel. bottom of int doors are green instead of black.console insets are black instead of silver. 77 newport air cleaner. orange engine. trim ring wheels. (68 were all chrome) grille looks dirty and aged. No pics of trunk......A decent car but not a top end price Charger. IMHO
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

I don't have a problem going out to arizona to check it out, but it appears i lost a lot of mopar knowledge in the past 15 years, or more honestly never knew all that stuff.  im playing phone tag with the guy right now, but hopefully i can get some better answers then come back for help.  in the mean time i guess ill post over in the cars wanted forum.  thanks for the help so far, you guys are great.

Blown70

I dont think of that as at 35,000 car.  Take your time and look around.  I know you may want to buy now, but take your time find the best car for the $$$ and I really thinkin the long run you would be happier with another car.

The fact that you were directed to another number and are now playing phone tag has my red flags tripping.  Have you talked to the owner at all yet. :popcrn:

drfangs

I shouldn't say im playing phone tag, i called the other number, and he called me back promptly, but i didn't hear my phone ring.  i googled the phone number and it seems to be a legitimate auto business that deals with old chevy's (i can't be mad at them, i have a camaro ss), and its listed there also.  but i do have a list of questions ready as soon as i get a hold of the guy.

bull

Oh, a dealer. :icon_smile_blackeye: No wonder it's at least $10k higher than it should be. The guy probably paid $15k for it.

teamroth

^^ It's a nice car, but in this market I would say he's 20k too high. My  :Twocents:
I'd rather die than go to heaven.

drfangs

I havnt heard from the other guy, but this 1968 Hemi Charger is about 3 miles from my house, and i've seen it a couple of times.  http://www.elitemotorsportsmd.com/main.htm   My problem with this is i wouldn't be comfortable driving it, and due to my upbringing, $80K seems a lot for a car.  I'm more concerned about not being able to enjoy it, rather then the money.  And since im looking for advice, i found this one also http://atlanta.craigslist.org/cto/1182320938.html which i would really wouldn't mind driving around.  i believe cars should be driven, so what do you guys think? taras

drfangs

for the hemi, youhave to navigate to the inventory and scroll down.

69*F5*SE

Yeah, that dealer price is way off right now.   Not to him though.  He waiting for that uninformed impulse buyer to come along.

Dans 68

Is that Atlanta Craigslist car a real R/T? If not probably one of the rare XP 4-bbls 4-speed's with A/C!  19K does not seem out of line if in fact it is an original R/T with 4-speed. Grab the vin and fendertag numbers, go see the car, and take lots of photos.

I think the 68 is priced too high IMO. Decent bodywork and paint will cost you quite a bit on top of the 19k.  In the end, for the money you will have spent for work and color, you would have been better off spending it on one already done.  :Twocents:

As far as the 440 and the 4 spd, I don't know if that makes it worth more or what(it doesn't matter to me anymore FWIW). Does it matter to you is my question.  Is that one an original numbers car, production numbers with that combination and options, etc....etc.....

the 440 atl car is originally a 383.  i just want a nice 68 that won't fall apart or crack like the ones i had back in the 90's when i had no money.  bondo looks good for about 6 months, then it gets cold and everything falls apart.  problem is i cant seem to find a good one, at a reasonable pricem even though everyone says they're out there.  imk not looking to steal a car either but i think some sellers aren't reasonable
