hi guys
i'm going to look at this charger on thurs. its a 70 charger r/t can someone help my decode this tag. to be a matching #s block. should   the last 4 nummbers of the vin be on the drivers side of motor? where is it on the trans? the motor and trans are out of vehicle so the #s shouldn't be hard to find. do all r/t have hp motors? thanks Rene

Rene, Here's a decoder specifically for '70 Chargers. http://host219.ipowerweb.com/~1970char/Misc/Fender_Tag.html

Second, here is a pic of that engine. I added an arrow as to where the VIN will be. It usually will have the year (0) and plant (g) with the VIN numbers following.

Third, if you go and look at it, try and get the entire VIN so I can register the car. The guy won't give it up via email.

Good Luck

I'm pretty sure the vin number on the trans is on the drivers side right above the oil pan. towards the front of the tranny.

Here is a crappy picture of mine.

To me, it looks like the pneumatic burp gun moved a bit when they were stamping that VIN number.  I've seen that happen before, where they almost double-stamped something.

69_500

Well some of the early 500's actually did get double stamped on purpose. Some of the one's i've looked at over the years you can clearly see the XX is stamped over the XS that was origionally stamped on the trans and engine.

BigBlockSam

well we bought the car . there will be pics and more info tomrrow when it gets home. Rene

So the question is, are you going to use this one to make into the Daytona, or are you going to take it back to an origional 70?

BigBlockSam

this one is going totally original, i would never cut up a well documented #'s matching r/t for a daytona. i'm still looking for a 70 charger roller to make a pro street daytona  out of . i have 2 sets of daytona parts. Rene
