The manual trans train jump car was for the second train jump.

The first train jump was the famous one in 1980.  That's the one from "Grannie Annie" that showed up in the opening credits for a while.  Small pushbar and a 727.

The crew tried doing another train jump again in 1983, but it ended in a bad smashup.  The editors cut away to some stock footage of a different jump for the landing.  This one used a 4spd car.  Wider pushbar.

--------------------------------------

The show actually used a number of 4spd Chargers, but the mechanics normally swapped in 727s as soon as they got them.  The crew wanted automatics.

oh right ..i see thanks for the info Mike DC ..i find all this dukes stuff ..with what car did what !!! been years since i seen one where bo & luke were in a prison ..& chain gang ..think the only time i saw it is when it was shown on tv
there was a manual charger seen towards the end i think , you can see luke  making sure it was in neutral

THE COLONEL

My favorite jump is not actully the best jump in my opinion, but the best looking angle (and I can't remember the name of the episode at the momen, but they were chasing a helicopter, and, and the the camer is in the chopper when it jumps, so you get a quick birds eye view of a jump, as it looks like it is going to hit the chopper.
"THE COLONEL....DIFFERENT RANK...SAME ATTITUDE"

paironines

There was a jump/wreck in one of the shows where there were two generals and one jumped into the woods pretty straight but at the last second seemed to turn over in mid air and land upside down.

Another: Where the general crashes through the barn roof with the belly of the car.

That would be "Double Dukes".

That would be "And In This Corner, Luke Duke".

If I ever got the chance to jump Daisy Duke back in the day, that would have been my favorite!

Dang - y'all beat me to that one!

mikepmcs

But she's all yours now.
Looks like she ate one of the General's tires.

(who am i kidding, I still love her)
Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

HollyWoodCharger

The Carnival of Thrills Jump would have to be my Favorite, that Jump makes the hair on the back of my neck standup!

Followed closely by the one and only Jump in the Hazard in Hollywood Reunion movie...

moparheater

:stirthepot: How about when Coy and Vance come flying onto Uncle Jesse's farm for the first time?  :popcrn:

Mike DC

That one was the first nitrous-oxide-boosted jump.  They didn't have enough run-up space to the ramp with just a normal motor.  (Remember the car is pulling about 200 pounds of rollcage & 600 pounds of trunk ballast.)

challenger70

My favorite is any where a Charger wasn't destroyed during it
'68 383 A833 QQ1 Charger
'70  440 727 FY1 Challenger

Mike DC

heh, heh . . . . well, they did use miniature model cars for most of the stunts during the last season . . .

She looks like Boss Hog.

Ghoste

Daisy Duke was Boss Hogg's illegitimate bastard luv child??  What a reunion episode that would make for.  :smilielol: :smilielol: :smilielol:

Mike DC

Man, if I had a dollar for every wisecrack ever made about Daisy's legitmacy/inbreeding . . .

::)

Ghoste

Still somewhat off the topic but going in a more serious direction,  I have to say that it surprises me a little to hear you say that Mike.  I know you're pretty heavy into the DOH scene but I guess I just figured you were more or less just into the General.  It surprises me that people would make Daisy wisecracks to you.  I'm assuming here obviously, but this is occurring at car shows correct?

Mike DC

No, I'm not referring to snide comments directed at ME at car shows.  Nothing rude like that.

People just always make comments about Daisy like that whenever DOH gets brought up.  Not people that know & love the show, just people that know/remember it vaguely as a little part of pop-culture.  The same people that say "Oh yeah, I remember the Duke boys, Bo and Duke!"

It's like if the subject of the conversation gets onto Star Trek - you're ALWAYS gonna hear someone say "Beam me up, Scotty!" within the first 45 seconds.

Or the subject of Darth Vader:  "Luke, I am your father!"

Ghoste

Interesting, I've certainly heard your other two examples but I can't say that I've heard any sort of cliched Duke-isms with the possible exception of Yeee-haw.

Mike DC

I'm just glad the show came back to pop-culture's radar screen so people quit telling me that my (69 Charger) is the wrong car for the GL.

I'm serious.

Before the GL had retaken its household-name status it was nuts.  People have looked at my replica and informed me that I was supposed to use everything from '66 Challenger to a Pontiac Catalina.

Ghoste

Really??  That surprises me even more.  Far more in fact.  :o

Mike DC

It blew me away initially too.  But this was the 1990s back then and Dukes was a long way from Jessica Simpson.  It was just another old TV show like Starsky & Hutch or CHiPs.

So many people can't remember the names of half the characters, and yet they're 100% confident their recollections about the car are better than a guy who spent thousands of dollars making his own GL.  I'll never figure it out.

--------------------------------------------------

The principle is still at work today.

Even now, it's commonplace to get people telling you a GL replica is wrong all over the place (when it's not).  Usually the only thing that shuts them up is having some pics of the TV series cars in the glovebox.
