Hey will a 340 intake fit a 318 with stock heads?? If so I'm going to be lucky. found an Edlebrock performer intake for a 340 for $75.

It will fit and work but the port size is different enough to where the performance is only marginally better than what you had. You can put some 360 heads on with that intake and be a lot happier.

I have allways thought that 340 intake matches with 318 heads :shruggy:

In fact 318 were available down here with 4bbls, what I think should be from 340 USA engines, being 318 with 4bbls were not an option up there
Venezuelan RT 74 400 4bbl, 727, 8.75 3.23 open. Now stroked with 440 crank and 3.55 SG. Here is the History and how is actually: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,7603.0/all.html

If the intake manifold is a "performer" and NOT the "Performer RPM" it will have the smaller 318 sized intake ports....a good match for your 318.  :2thumbs:

The Performer will bolt up to all LA series smallblock heads ; 273/318/340/360 allthough the port opening on the manifold will be smaller than the opening in the 340/360 head. That isn't really a problem but will limit power on the larger engine....that's why they make specific manifolds for that type of application.

Conversely, it can be a problem using a 340/360 manifold on a 273/318 head because the mismatch at the port entry will create turbulance and disrupt intake flow to the valves. The larger manifold/small head mismatch also creates other issues pertaining to performance and engine operating range so the turbulance is not the only issue.

In a nutshell, the performer will physically bolt onto the 340/360 head but it's really designed for a 318.  :yesnod:

That's where I was going Ron - I remember (many) years ago, a friend put an LD340 on a 318 and the thing was a turd. It didn't make enough power to pull the skin off of rice pudding. The original intake and 2bbl ran better.

I was just wondering eventually I'd like to put bigger heads on it but for now original is going to have to work.I don't think I'm going to pass this intake up though not for 75.00 especially if it will work. it is way better that 200.00-500.00

Exactly ! The ld340 is a poor choice for a stock 318 with small port heads. Edelbrock made an ld4b manifold that was designed for the 273/318 head castings with the proper port opening and more modestly sized runners.

I called the guy today going to check it out this saturday. I'm getting a set of heads also that match. all for 75 and it is a performer
