Yup!
So I stopped, backed up, got out of the car and talked to the owner.
A very nice Challenger indeed!
Without much convincing, he agreed to fire it up and bring it out into the sunlight for me to photograph....

Funny thing is: there never was a 1971 Challenger convertible made with the R/T option. Only 1970.
But with this color combo, this car is actually something even more interesting than an R/T....

Yeah, strange the only big block option for '71 Chally verts was the non R/T 383 and there weren't many built but yet Plymouth offered the 'cuda vert in anything except 440-4 like the hardtop.

This is what I think it is: http://www.indypacecars.com/1971.html

The car was bought new by the current owner's older sister, who died in 1996 and bequeithed this car to him in her will.
It was driven as a daily driver for summers only, over the first five years of ownership, then placed in long-term storage.
It has been repainted once, and the original 318 removed and replaced with a cast crank 440.
Otherwise, it is completely original. The owner isn't sure of whether or not it's a pace car replica, but the colors and options definitely jive with the pace car specs.

It was a real cool car to see poking out of a garage!!

Good eye.  I've spotted several Mopars like that also.  Just driving by and then "Wait, what was that" inside the open garage.

Tilar

Good eye. That's a very nice car.

There is an old man in town that has a two car garage, that I've seen opened one time. He has what looks to be an old cuda, maybe late 60's with tons of boxes sitting on the hood. I didn't have time to stop and check it out and haven't seen him out again, BUT I just found out that I work with the guys grand daughter. Maybe I can get a chance to see what it really is after all.  :yesnod:
