What's a used 440 worth?

I just picked up two used 440's (from motorhomes) and two 727's from a buddy.  One motor may be locked up, but I'm not sure yet because I got back to the shop in the dark and it's date night for the wife and I.  I also got a set of hooker super comp headers (rusty but solid) that fit god knows what, a new gasket set for a 440, and an old Edelbrock dual plane intake in the deal.  He said he pulled one of the engines from a motorhome and it ran good at that time (yes I trust him).  I gave 600 bucks thinking it was a great deal until I talked to my dad and he thought it should have been cheaper.

What do you guys think?

I'd say $400-$600 is a good price just for 1 running 440.   I think you did just fine.  :2thumbs:

Thanks Skip.  I feel a lot better about my purchase now. :yesnod:

Good deal imo!  Coming from motor homes they'll be later blocks, possibly still virgins as well!  You won't fetch huge $$$$ like you would for #s matching 68-70 casting blocks, but the later blocks are great for anyone not dead set on #s.  So whether you intend to sell them or make use of them yourself I'd say you did pretty good  :yesnod:

Hell, around here (Sweden) I'd be lucky to find an empty block for 600 bucks.... Good score!

Thanks fellas.  Yeah I intend to use these blocks myself (one for the Charger and surely another mopar will come along...) and I don't care about numbers matching.  Probably gonna try to push decent power out of one of these and if it kicks the rods out someday I won't feel guilty about killing a motorhome block.
Now I can tell dad "Told you so!" :nana:

I just bought a 440 out of a motorhome that had 20kish miles on it. Back end rotted out of the motorhome so they trashed it. I gave $300 for the engine and tranny. I havent heard it run by any means, but I did put a battery to it and it sounded fine turning over.

I see them all the time here in Vegas.   On Craigslist right now there is a 440 with tranny for $200.
