I posted this in another music related thread a while back:

Maybe it's an age thing. Nevermind came out just as I was about to enter my teenage years, and pretty much anyone who was between 12-15 at the time was blown away by that record, because it sounded like it was written about us, for us. I outgrew Nirvana a long time ago, but every now and then when I hear "In Bloom", "Lithium", or any of those songs, I am reminded of how much those songs meant to me when I was an angry, confused kid, and I really appreciate them in that context.

I still think "Unplugged in New York" is one of the best records ever.

That record is great because it pretty much dispels the notion that Kurt Cobain / Nirvana "couldn't play their instruments" and that their music was just noise. Hearing them "unplugged" revealed the great craftsmanship in some of their songs (and some the covers they played). I'm still nearly moved to tears whenever I hear Kurt belting out "Pennyroyal Tea" without the band - just him and his guitar.
