What engine do you have in your Charger/Mopar and why?

What engine do you have in your Charger/Mopar and say why you chose that engine.  What were the deciding factors?  If you could have another engine, what would it be and what is holding you back from using that engine?

400 and a 440, easy to find, not that expensive to build, get adequate power for the purpose they have.

if I ever buy a new engine (current isn't the #'s matching) I'll go for a mild 440. (Yes, a HEMI is too expensive )

Jamey, could you make it could us multiple Mopar guys can vote for more than one? For the Charger, I voted 383 because it's what was available to me at the time when we took the 318 out.

440 for me and that's because it was in the car when I bought it.  I would love to put a 6.1 Hemi in it, but I'm not going to throw any more money at this thing for awhile.

383 was in the Charger when I bought it.

I bought a 440 with a auto to go in her but my Uncle seized the 413 in his motor home so I gave him the 440.
Since he was letting me store my Charger in his back yard for almost 10 years for free I felt it was a fair trade.

In the end I did not see a justifiable reason to go through all the work to but a 440 in her since I'm just going to drive and cruise, not drag race.

383. Even though I started with nothing and naturally was trying to find a 440, I got a deal on a rebuilt 383 long block that I couldn't pass up, and I'm cheap.

We have a 440 in her now but the car was originally a 318... We chose the 440 because of the obvious power upgrade.  We would have gone with a 472, but it just was toooo costly

i now have a 400 in one of my chargers and a 318 in the other...however i am building a 440 to put in one as soon as i am finished with the body work.  as for what i would like to have  a 426 hemi to exacly replicat richard petty's 73 charger    but those are way to expensive for me right now

426 Hemi - Used the single "vote" based on my favorite Mopar, my Triple Black 1968 Charger R/T...

As for why, thats what was in it when I bought it in the late '70s for $740.

451   I had a 400 block laying around.It was out of a totaled 72 newport that belonged to a customer of mine.I bought his car in 84.Since then that motor was in my 71 charger 500 then in my 69 Dart and then it sat in my garage for at least 15 years.I wanted to build a 440 but the guy that built my engine priced out a stroker kit from 440 Source and it was competitive with the machining I needed to build the 440.The advantages with going for the 400 include lower deck height(I wanted to keep the original hood),the block is 20# lighter than a RB block,more room for headers(approx.1 "narrower),and I already owned it.I still have the original matching # motor safely put away.

The 440 came with the car so that's what i have. If i could have any motor it would be a stroked hemi (the bigger the better) love the look of them 2nd choice would be a stroked 440.

Mine has a 383 4bbl thats what it was born with.It's not #matching,but it's correct.
