What's up with this conficker worm deal. Hoax or real??

I searched didn't find anything but it is April first tomorrow and everyone is going crazy about this conficker worm that's supposed to activate at midnight.   This reminds me of the full ad in the newspaper I saw once that said Taco Bell just bought the Liberty Bell.  Part of me thinks it's a huge prank and part of me thinks maybe some wacko will try to screw everything up.  I don't know but I'm going forward as usual and not going to do anything different.  Guess I'll find out tomorrow.  Also, they said the John Hancock(Boston's huge skyscraper) building was sold today, wonder if that's BS too.

Life isn't Father Knows Best anymore, it's a kick in the face on a saturday night with a steel toed grip kodiak work boot and a trip to the hospital all bloodied and bashed.....for reconstructive surgery. But, what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger, right?

MoparManJim

Well you do have a very good point there my friend. I'm thinking like you right now about just going forward tomorrow as while. like you said, we will see at midnight and tomorrow about this if it is true or a prank.  :shruggy:

RECHRGD

Geeeze!  It's even being talked about on national news.  Not that that means much.   Bob

Yes, it's real - they just don't know exactly what it's capable of since it asks for instructions once activated. It could do any number of things as long as it can get online to retrieve the instructions. There are patches on most of the major antivirus and malware sites as well as Microsoft.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

Okay, what if we stayed off line on th e1st and got back online on the 2nd? would that by chance work.  :-\

mikepmcs

All the articles I read said no because your computer most likely already has the worm imbedded or some crap like that.
Since I trust you guys on here more than anywhere else.  Anyone want to throw the patches up for us to download or is that going too far Troy?

I'm getting really worried :errr:

I'm looking to see if my pc is indeed infected by that thing or not. I don't know what patch is for my pc either at this time. I have Windows XP.  :-\

Cody, do you have Windows XP as while?

XP is fine so long as you have done the critical updates.  If not, go to Start, help and support, keep your windows up to date (or something like that), and update.  Kim
