Thought it was time for a bit of an update

As the workshop is a bit small, ive had to move the shell into a position that i cant work on it and covered it up so that i have created a working area to restore all the parts that need to go back on.

With the shell safely out of the way, ive started on all the parts. As everything needs restoring in some way or other, i though id best make sure these things are the right color! Any one who see something wrong in the pics, please do say.

Lots of bits went to the powder coater, but he did one thing wrong. He did the rear springs in black, not silver. I know some springs were black, but could mine have been black??? Car was scheduled for build 2nd september 1968. Any thoughts?

Also, battery tray, should it be black or body color?

Ive done lots of small parts but most of these are all bagged up so no pics

Bendix discs blasted and primed. Once painted they will be skimmed. Should be close to minimum thickness when done. NOS ones are Waaay to much!

Back plates stripped of rust. these were phosphated originally, close to black, like a dark grey. Im probably going to tuftride them as this is a very close match but will stop rusting.

More parts, silver this time. Yes, i forgot to remove the j nut

Despite a lack of updates work is still ongoing - slowly.

My axle restoration is stalled! Once i had the casing out, i stripped it and dumped it in the oxalic acid. Once all the rust was gone i painted it ready for reassembly. just a new suregrip and we are done! Or so i thought!

When i checked the gears originally they were 3.23, but on closer examination they pinion is stamped 3.23 ans 3.55 with corresponding part numbers!!! They are actually 3.55.

The current plan is to convert to 3.23, The build sheet says 3.23, the gears are 3.55 and stamped for both. The axle is as far as i can tell, original. What to do??? What is correct?

The axle casing is powder coated and the springs have been reassembled.

Meanwhile, took the gearbox to a mate who promptly stripped it and gave the case back to me to clean up to as new condition. This is now done ready for reassembly. Nasty old casting, doesn't come up how you would expect.

In a wild fit of excitement, i thought i would sort out some heating parts, namrely the heater box. Not any old heater box, but an A/C heater box!

Ive fully stripped this, de rusted and painted the shell, but that did mean i needed to dsort out my plating station. After a few teething trobles the zinc plating is going ok.

With that done, i reassembled the heater box.

Did you actually count the teeth on the ring & pinion to get the ratio or are you relying on the stamping?

I counted the teeth! Ive got a 3.23 set here to to compare it too.
