I was just reading in Mopar Action about the Viper ACR setting a production car record at Nurburgring and it struck me as very sad that Dodge is looking for someone to buy the nameplate of such a halo car.  They never seemed to really know what they had or what to do with the Viper and for that reason maybe Dodge never deserved it in the first place?

that is a very good argument.. the viper is a great car, but throughout the years, it has become nothing more than a car for domestic manufacturers to try and beat, but it would never garnish any respect in the end of any testing.  I often read magazines that include the viper in their testing as a baseline to compare a corvette or Ford GT against.  I guess that can be complimentary, and then somehow the viper is rated 3rd place and the other two are way above it?  I tend to see more negative reviews than good and I dont know if it is because they dont like the viper or they just love the GT or the vette better? who knows.

all i know is that the viper is a naturally aspirated, non power-adder ass kicker and its beautiful in my eyes.  Does dodge deserve it? well, that is a very good question.  All i know is that if it does get sold, it will never carry the legacy that it does or has had while being a mopar.

Oddly, I agree with that too and it just makes the whole thing that much sadder.  They should have been promoting the hell out of that thing each year and maybe just a tad cheaper to get a few more out in the world.

The Viper beating the all hyped ZR1 was great, yet not so surprising. The Viper engineers claim it wasn't even that hard & the current V10 has over 50 additional hp just setting there waiting. I hope Dodge keeps this icon/nameplate, w/o it what are we left with?

What the current owners want to sell and what the government is going to force us to buy; lots and lots of blandly styled four door minicars that get great mileage and absolutely suck to drive.

This is the thing though, a used Vette is still cheaper than a used viper and every penny counts these days.  Chrysler needs to lower their prices and sell more.  :Twocents:

Here's a video of the record setting outing, one thing that's unique about Viper track videos is that they kick ass without spinning a lot of rpm's like the European exotics, they sound like they're just out for a Sunday cruise..

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Wow how cool is that. You know you can pay to take some laps in a BMW at the Ring? Or you can have a factory driver take you for a ride...We are going to Germany someday and that is what i want to do.....I also want a Viper as well...

The Viper is an awesome car... One of the best looking and performing automobiles ever produced. The only negative I have for the viper is the engine. It's wicked powerful, but V8 engines sound much cooler.  :Twocents:

I didn't until I read this magazine story and I'm with you, it would be awesome to take a few laps around there.  Not tom mention some other famous routes.
