Anyone ever traded their classic in on a new car?

I thought about taking my 69 Coronet R/T down to the dealer just to see what they'd give me towards a new Challenger.  If I wanted to sell it now I wouldn't get much in today's market and I'm not doing much with it since I started on my Superbird Clone.  I know the dealers don't give ya squat but I'm curious.  Anyone actually do it with their car and get anything for it?  It's only a thought for now but it's starting to grow a little.  Here's the R/T.

I doubt they would give you much unless someone there was a collector, otherwise, it's just an old car that doesn't even show up in the NADA books.

Honestly, I think you would be absolutely crazy to trade that in on a new car. A guy here in town traded in a fully restored 69 Bee 383 4spd with a ramcharger hood in on a new HEMI ram when they first came out. They gave him something like $9K for it. It was a very nice resto and was a very good looking car.

He started regretting it about a week later and then regretted it even more when they sold it for $22k.

Food for thought.

You can always ask, and if the offer is to low which in today's times would be understandable, just sell it at retail and take a loan.  The dealers buy at whole sale, and sell at retail, but you never know?  Beautiful car though, real nice.  :drool5:
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

New Challengers will always be available. Your car is a one of a kind.

what color is that?  T7?

Oh and i'd sell it outright and take the cash to the dealer.

I think I'll drive by this week just to see what they say.  I'm in no way ready to do something like that now unless somebody there really wanted it bad and offered some decent coin for it.  I've put a lot of time and money into it and not about to give it away.  It's got some personal touches and I have the original bulge hood too. I thought it would be my last project as it had most everything I wanted--440,4spd (former auto), Factory AC (currently not hooked up), etc and it yeah it would be missed.  I think I like the building process more than when it's done.  I do like the Chally and the only way I'd get one would be to sell the R/T but I guess it's just not the right time.  I was just wondering if anyone had came out ahead with their trade but something like the Superbee deal would probably what would occur.  I'll post what they offer just for info.  The color is T5.  The interior is a diff. shade code but I'd have to check the tag.  Here's a pic of the difference between interior /exterior.  Except for the shifter and seat covers, the rest of the interior is original.

Doesnt a 69 Coronet RT have the ralley dash like a Charger?

Nice Car! :yesnod:

I know the "69 Coronet Super Bee's got the Charger (Rallye) dash, but I don't think the Coronet R/T did.

NADA has a Classic section that has Muscle Cars listed.

Maybe it's just the lighting/film, but that interior color looks surprisingly reddish.

You might be surprised at what the dealership will give you for the car.  I considered doing the same thing with mine the summer after I graduated from high school so I could have something a little more suitable for everyday city driving in college.  The Dodge dealership was going to give me over $20,000 for my Charger towards the price on a bright red 2004 Cobra Mustang.  That was in 2005, so I would have been getting a "like new" car.....not a brand new Challenger.

Nice Car! :yesnod:
Thanks for the compliment . The rallye dash may have been an option.  My 69 Superbee had the rallye. I'll look in the sales brochure but the real R/T's and the 500's came with the 150mph speedo but the regular Coronets came with the 120.  They (R/T & 500) shared the same tail panel too.   Most people cloning R/T's forget about that.  The 150 speedo's are a little tough to come by.

It must be the lighting or maybe the monitor settings.  I don't have any reddish in it.  Here's another shot from a different angle.   The carpets a little faded in places and some sections may have more of an orangy tint.

In 1969, the A62 Rallye Instrument Panel was an extra-cost option on Coronet R/T's.  When A62 was coded, the Tic-Toc-Tach was included automatically.

'69 SuperBee's got the Rallye Instrument Panel standard, although it was like the Chargers in that the Tachometer was an extra-cost option.

wow the budget cheapo super bee got the rally dash and the high dollar executive muscle had to up pay
