Thanks Steve(tantop) for emailing me this one....
Nicely loaded R/T with a sunroof and the V21 option.
What makes this one very cool is the options it has been fitted with....all high dollar options but no SE option.... pretty odd to say the least.
Love the plexi-glas ;)

That is a cool car & not in terrible shape for a project. Good thing that the vinyl top was removed, it probably saved the roof from rot. Of course the photos provided don't show everything, but seeing it in person is the only way to know. I can see bubbles in the paint which means it has rust, & the trunk has crap in it, so I'd assume there is no trunk floor. Same with the passenger compartment floors since no underside shots were taken.

I have a question that some of you other guys might be able to answer. I don't know the decoding the tag thing, but was wondering if this Charger had A/C?   :shruggy:

I see an air vent on the lower left side of the dash, but not the center twin vents under the radio area. I don't recall seeing non A/C cars get these lower left & right vents unless they had A/C. Also, does it look like the firewall has a bypass hose?

My '68 Charger has A/C, so it has those lower vents & the hole for the twin center vents under the radio. Also, my '69 Satellite convertible without the rally dash has A/C, so it has them, but my '68 Coronet convertible has a solid metal panel in place of the lower vents since it's a non A/C car.

Going from memory, the '70 GTX I had with a rally dash that didn't have A/C, had woodgrain panels in place of the 2 lower L & R vents. Maybe the center pad was swapped on the ebay Charger?   :shruggy:

The fan is in the firewall so it has to be an A/C car. Plus it's coded H51 and has the A/C vents on the sides.  Center pad must of been changed.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

That is a great optioned Charger. Good looking too with Hemi orange and all the black accents. Too bad about the column shift and buddy seat. Thats a big strike for me.

No not for '69...the sunroof is "coded" by the VON..... starting with "928"XXX

In this cars case its # 339 of the 391 sunroof cars built for '69
928339

In '70 the code M51 is not on the tag for the sunroof option

:nono: That is incorrect my friend. It's the same deal as the '69. The "M9" in the VON (Vehicle Order Number) will show that it had a sunroof. There is no M51 on any 1970 tag.

That is a really cool car, thanks for posting it on here. I scaned right over it on ebay and never clicked on it untill I saw this post. Wonder what it will go for, my guess is around $15,000. I could be way off but we'll see.

               Hey there,

VERY COOL CAR!!!!  Too bad it didn't come with a console and floor shift. It's also very weird that it isn't a RT/SE car and does not have a tach. This car is an A/C car and has some cool options to it. It could almost pass as my car's twin. This one was built after mine (mine was #302 built with a sunroof). Looks like it needs quite a bit of work though. I love the plexiglass on the sunroof!!!  My car should be completed in a couple of weeks and I'll send pics soon. Have been working on it since last June.

Guys be leary of this one. There is something just doesnt look right about the sunroof. And it isnt the plexiglass..

my thought is that it didn't look original either but thats just me, and why the orange fender tag and yellow car??? the tag would of been painted when the car was painted if it is THIS cars tag

all the sunroof cars i've seen seem to have the sunroof alot closer to flush with the rest of the roof, yes i know PART of the engine campartment is orange but most of it is black..............

Haha...

My first 68 Charger was a column shift and I raced it for years like that as I never had the money to afford a ratchet shifter. I ran 12.8 @ 110 consistently. Thus, I became known as "Column Shifter James". When I run into my old race buddies they still call me that!!

The only way to know for sure if this is a legit sunroof car would be to take some measurements of where the sunroof sits and compare it with an original. You guys think this fender tag is from a different car?

I agree...something is really wrong with that sunroof.  The pic of the motor inside looks off too. Not sure what to make of that one   :shruggy:

69_500

Location of the sunroof doesn't appear off to me, and I'm solely basing that on the 20 sunroof cars I've seen over the years. And comparing it to photo's. Compared photo's of the bracing on the inside as well and don't notice anything glaring at me that isn't like the others.

Reason the fender tag isn't painted the yellow that the rest of the car is, I'm assuming is because its not on the car. Inner fenders are painted black while the exterior is yellow. Typical cheap oh paint job from the 80's if you ask me. Easiest way to confirm the car would be for someone to go look at it, and take a photo of the rear wheel wells, as well as the door jambs with the doors open.

sunroofblacklee

The sunroof bracing looks correct to me as well. Correct motor just added an after market switch to it. Looking at the pictures you can see orange all over the car in a bunch of pictures of it. Probably just had the fender tag off the car when they painted it up like DMCL and wanted to keep it in nice safe place.

You are right...After I got home last night I double checked mine and the motor is the same and everything from inside the car looks the same.  The one on this car just appears to look odd from above.

sunroofblacklee

I think it just looks funny because of the rubber around the plexi glass, I agree it does look weird but I would have to bet the car is the real deal.
