i scored a smokin deal on a Ray Barton built 528 hemi.a friend of mine noticed a small ad for crate hemi's with no pricing or info and called just out of curiousity.turns out a chrysler dealership was dumping all of their inventory.they bought them when the dollar was at par,and are now dumping them at cost.i paid $16,000.00 CANADIAN DOLLARS which is about $13,000.00 usd.other dealers up here want 24k plus, and to get one from the us would be 23-24k after the exchange and shipping etc.i've always wanted one(who doesn't)and figured this was a great time to pull the trigger.not that i could afford it,but how could i afford not to?right?my friend who bought the only other 528 they had, talked to Barton to confirm that they were in fact Barton crate hemis.their shop foreman said they consistently pull 650 to 670 horsepower(Barton now uses his own single four barrel intake design)and if we wanted to upgrade to their solid cam, they could make up to 750 horsepower!i could not imagine that much power on the street.i have a 69 hemi charger 4 spd project  that will be the lucky recipient of this engine.but now that i'm broke,it's going to be awhile before it gets on the road.this is going to be like torture waiting.

That is an AMAZING deal!! I know the 472 in my car cost the original owner close to $20k. I would be all over that!!!!!

It's going to cost him a hell of a lot more than that, no?  :icon_smile_big:

Cool deal, the Hemi will look good in the '69. Your '70 Charger will be jealous.

Awsome deal Bullit

But why would you put in a solid cam? A good hydraulic roller setup is IMO a much better setup for something you want to drive every day. :shruggy:
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

suntech,i agree with you on the roller cam set-up.the solid cam idea came from the barton shop foreman just in conversation.i dont think i'll do anything to it,just install it as is.but down the road(in-case i get bored with 650 hp lol)i might upgrade.

I know Barton likes the solid ones, and it is because of the angle of the pushrod against the lifters that is the reason, if i remember right. Have a talk with Tim Banning, at For Hemis Only, about this. He is building a 611 Aluminum Hemi for me  :D He is alo in Canada :2thumbs:

SWEET!  I have a Ray Barton 528 and it cost well north of that.  I have the solid cam he recommended and a Stage V 2x4 inline intake with Edelbrocks on top.  It dyno'd at 705 with a nice torque band.  He said his single 4bbl intake Holley Dominator, and a bigger solid cam could push 800 easily.  He had no love of roller cams for street engines.  Told me they don't oil well and would not use a hydraulic roller on a BB or Hemi Mopar.  If you want to dump that engine, drop me an email:-)

Right on man.  Congrats on the smokin' deal.  :2thumbs:
