got a new distributor for my 383 but the arrow on the shaft (gear?) reluctor shows clockwise rotation will this still work?

i guess the reason i asked this was because the intake casting shows distributor rotation as being counter-clockwise

That same reluctor is used on small blocks and big blocks. it is installed (clocked) on the shaft a certain way depending on the engine. I have an instruction sheet filed away that shows proper clocking if you need it.
If it ain't broke, fix it 'till it is.

The interchangeable reluctors that I've seen have two keyways and a left-right arrow, if the arrow shows only one direction it might be aftermarket.  :shruggy:
