Anybody have a picture.  What's involved in attaching the Gearvendors unit?  Will existing crossmember work?  I assume the driveshaft has to be shortened.  I searched and found a lot of info on attaching one of these to a 727 but not a A-833.

OK.  Thanks.  Should have looked there first.  Will need to pull the tailshaft and all the transmission gears/mainshaft and remove the spring clip and bearing from the old tailshaft and reinstall in the new extension housing that mates the gear vendors planetary gearbox to the 833.  Then the gear vendors gearbox appears to have inside splines that match up with the existing mainshaft and the gear vendors gearbox sticks out behind where the old driveshaft was inserted.  I wonder if it causes trouble as far as fitment with a original eqpt exhaust H-pipe, ie, do you need to have this part modified?  This would be on a BB application.  Obvioulsy, you need to shorten the driveshaft.

I fitted one to an 18 spline A-833. I only pulled the tailshaft out about an inch, just enough to get to the clip that holds it in place, then I could remove the tailshaft. The new tailshaft was a tighter fit on the bearing but I got it fitted without too much trouble.
You will need a crossmember from an automatic car or you could convert your manual crossmember by welding the extra bracket on. I modified mine.
The tunnel will need slight modification with a ball pein hammer to clear the two bolts on top of the overdrive, and lower down on the drivers side to clear the speedo cable.
I had to cut and shut the exhaust and refit the H-pipe because it fouled the overdrive.
I swapped the 3.23 gears for 3.91's at the same time and it has transformed the car.

Aside from the cost it sounds like a lot of work and modification.

I think I like the sound of the van/pickup A-833 OD transmission swap better. Although it's not perfect it is easier and a lot cheaper.
