Custom Dash & Gauges Question

 How hard is to customize a Dash in 69 Charger I have seen some with medal plates and new gauges put in them I think the look sweet does any body have any pics of the how to this like what kind of metal to se and where in the heck do I get the metal and how do I cut it? I have no clue but it is something that I want to learn about.
