I have the passenger side fender off except that it is hanging by the antenna. I have it resting on a small stool so I have total access to the top and bottom of the antenna, but I cant see right off how to disconnect it so I can remove the fender completely. How do you do it?

Thanks

the bezel on the top of the fender unscrews from the fender and the bottom of the antennea that has the funny bracket that crosses the hole from under neath goes out the bottom with the rest of the antennae itself, hope you understand this , take the top bezel off the top of the fender

Thanks. Are we talking about the circular bezel that has 4 grooves in it in the shape of a plus sign? I cant get that thing to turn at all.

yep ..there is a special tool for this , but it can be undone in other ways , one of which is get a small flatended punch  either brass or cover the end with a little duck tape  & give the bezel a tap with a small dead blow hammer , one blow should do it counter clock wise  :yesnod:, don't keep pounding on it , as you might damage the bezel ,

Short of that, you may have to go to an auto parts store and get one of the special sockets.  You can usually find them in a specialty tools section.

may need someone to help hold the bottom piece with vide grips if its rusted together, being a 2nd gen don't they make complete new antennae sets?? not saying he needs one but if he has the option, that way he doesn't commit hairi karri if things don't go well

Metro Parts used to have a bunch but I thought theirs were all lost in that fire?

Unhook the antenna at the radio and slide the whole antenna wire out and then put your fender somewhere where you can let the bezel soak for a day with WD40 or your favorite spray. Don't want the mental image of you holding your fender all night!

Ghoste

Which, if you're tearing the car down that far you pretty much need to do anyway.

You've already cut the wire, haven't you?  :yesnod:

I use a pair of 90-degree needle-nose pliers. I put little tabs of tape on the ends so it doesn't scratch. Put the ends of the needle-nose pliers in the slots, give a little turn, and it's off. A little crude, but works like a charm.
