I think it would be better to build something of your own.  So far it's working out great.  The weather here is damp and my car is dry and that was the whole purpose.  I will say though as long as you drive in slow and just use it for that it's great.  It's delicate is all I can say.  If you were to work in it, you would probably tear something.  I lightly opened my door into the plastic side zipper door and tore a hole, I did something else real stupid and won't even mention it, but again I was using duct tape to seal it up.   ::)  I like the fact that it's real easy to repair when you do stupid things.  :icon_smile_big:  Work in it?  I don't know.  Knowing my car is in my garage dry when it's humid is a super great feeling.  I know it's a little expensive ( I used my tax refund ) but I truly am protecting my very expensive investment, or money hole. :icon_smile_wink:

That's what I'm doing... more room and far less money, about $100 all said and done. :yesnod:
I actually have it started, but not completed as yet. Unfortunately due to my current work schedule and work location, I only have "2 hours a month" where I can get back home to work on it at the moment... very frustrating to say the least. I'll be home permanently in a few months though... I'm hoping anyway ;). I like this home made method better... it leaves the lights and electrical outlets inside the bubble.

At any rate... here is a link to what I have so far: http://s703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/FastbackMike/Cheap%20Car%20Bubble%20Project/?albumview=grid

Go to GRID mode, click on the first image, then just use the arrows on the side of the screen to navigate ( they pop up when you mouse over them). Sorry, I only have 3 shots so far, more to come in early May when I get my next 2 hrs in.

By the way... Thanks for starting this thread. It gave me the inspiration and motivation to finally get me off my duff and start working on this long overdue project.

What you're doing looks great.  There's no way at all I could build something like that at a 100.00 cost in my state, plus install fans.  The one good thing about the Air Chamber is that you can fold it down and roll it up, and your back to your original garage.  That part I like.

Well, I got a little further along on my trip home this weekend. Still not 100%, but fully functional just the same: http://s703.photobucket.com/albums/ww35/FastbackMike/Cheap%20Car%20Bubble%20Project/?albumview=grid

I have 3 lights inside the bubble, 3 electrical outlets, and plenty of space to move around.
Not bad for a $50 roll of Heavy Duty plastic, 5 or 6 EL-Cheapo 2X4's at $2.50 ea., and 5 sheets of 5/8" Chip Board Plywood at $7.00 ea.

Pretty nice work!

What are your plans for circulating the air?

Musicman

I'll have a dehumidifier in there in the summer months and probably just a small oscillating fan in the winter. The door is not 100% air tight so there will always be a small amount of fresh air exchange taking place within. Plus the door will obviously be opened every time I take the car out as well so... no worries. It may not look like much, but it gets the job done. Maybe someday I'll build myself a real garage so I won't have to deal with moisture issues, but until then, this will do just fine.

So how is this air-chamber holding up after 6 months?

I think I am about ready to bite the bullet and order two of these for my un-insulated detached garage for my charger and trans am.

I think my main concern is durability.

Dang! No wonder ya'lls cars are so nice. :drool5: Mine is covered outside (400 dollar car cover) and has never been in a garage or on a Concrete Slab it's whole life. :o Of course it gets driven every week which helps.

Absolutely great.  My car is always dry.  I have no complaints.  I drive in it with ease, sometimes I zip it up sometimes not.  I did tear a few places because of being stupid ( duct tape seals fine ), but as long as it's used to hold the car and nothing is around it to tear it , it is fantastic.  I bought it to keep the car dry and that's what it does.  I walked outside just now and snapped a picture. The barricades leaning against it are so the little one does'nt open the wifes Honda door into the Charger, again. :brickwall:

Two thoughts after looking at your "bubble garage":

1. Is it mice proof? I think the concept holds a whole lot of validity, but as my wife just pointed out to me - mice would easily chew their way into something that thin around these here parts.
2. I like the dent-proof barrier you've made out of plywood and towels. But, as plywood is both heavy AND has pointy ends capable of piercing that plastic, I would suggest using 4' x 8' sheets of expanded foam, the kind used for insulating house exteriors under vinyl siding. It's light, cheap and easy on the paint.

Otherwise, I love your car!

Thanks for the thoughts, maybe a long single foam sheet would be nice.  Those are plastic and light escalator barricades.  As for mice, I use a trap with peanut butter to get them.  They hang out in my shed where all my small gas engine equipment are stored.
