68 charger at the body shop for paint.  They just uncovered some bad rust on the drivers' door at the bottom.  He called me and asked if I knew of a patch panel for his and I can't find one.

Any ideas?  I have a spare drivers' door, but the corners have rot and it's probably not much better than what's on the car.

I'd hate to have drop 600 on a whole door skin just for a patch!

with out see it ..think i would plate it up ,  or see if you can find a damaged door  that is rot free  & cut  off the bottom & un bend the rolled over flange .  make sure they seam seal paint the join inside the door after :yesnod:   sourcing another door , could end up doing more work  :scratchchin: ,

I would love to get another door but they all seem to be rotted on the bottom.  and if they aren't....they cost a ton.  I'm leaning towards giving him the free door I have and having him make a patch from it using metal from up further than the rust. at leas the gauge would be the same....

I'm going to look at it tomorrow. maybe it make's sense to just use the door in my garage since it's not terribly rusty

might be bucks up finding a rust free door vs paying 550 for a skin and all of the labor to install it.

just came back from the shop. door is a toilet.  corners had been patched years ago and they are ok, but the whole middle is air-holed.  plus the backside lip underneath is trash.  the previous hack used 1/4" of bondo to fix it.  looks like another 550 out the window.  unless someone has a rust free door laying around.  might as well ask if anyone has a hemi laying around!  :flame:

At least you'll have a fresh skin on the door knowing that is what you ultimately want other than finding a very nice door somewhere.  Just make sure your body guy has good experience reskinning doors.   :shruggy:  Ted

It's funny you mention finding a door somewhere....I've looked and they seem to never come up on craigslist or ebay.  even the only one on ebay right now is going for 85 bucks buy in now. it's got issues from the pics he shows.  I guess most people use what they have unless they are smashed or rotted beyond belief.

I'm going out on a limb here, but is the door on eBay mine?

Just a hunch...   :D

I also have a PAIR of '70 doors that are super nice, but the handles & locks are shaved:

I can't enlarge any of your pix from the auction.  Keep getting this.  Look like good prices on all your doors.  :shruggy:

Yeah, I noticed that today as well. I used Auctiva to create that auction. Seems they are having major server problems, it's been like that the past few days.
Sorry to get off topic...
