Converter question for tranny guys

I am setting up a 518 trans with a lock up converter to operate without flipping switches all the time. I am going to use a governor pressure switch to activate the overdrive above 48 psi and the lockup to activate above 52 psi if the manifold vacuum is above 6 inches.

My 2004 Ram  and my wife's  Bonneville both unlock the converter when the throttle is at idle. When you reapply the gas the converter locks up again after a couple of seconds. I read that the lock up clutch was not built for engine braking.

Is this true on a 518 trans?

Do I need to have a idle position switch in the lock up circuit?

The lockup clutch will be fine for engine braking, there are kits available for stockers to keep the clutch locked on decel. I've always thought the factory unlock on decel was a stupid idea, just wears the clutch out sooner.

The vacuum switch is a good idea, the only other thing you might want to add is a brake unlock to interrupt the converter circuit when the brakes are applied, prevents engine lugging as the vehicle slows to a stop. Wire a normally closed relay to the brake light switch so that the converter ground opens when the brakes are applied.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
