Need your opinions about what to do...

OK, so here is my dilemma...

I don't have no where near enough height under the Six-Pack scoop for the aircleaner.. My first thought was to just cut a hole in the damn scoop and be done with it.. BUT when I put the aircleaner lid on top of the scoop to see what it would look like, well it looks kinda stupid because its not centred...

So give me an opinion about what I should do :scratchchin:

I CAN NOT USE A DROP BASE LID!!! A drop base would interfere and hit the fuel regulator, etc...

Here are some pictures...

raise the hight of the scoop or get a taller one  :yesnod:  have seen a sixpack style one  like double the hight of the original  :yesnod:

I know that there are Six-Pack scoops that are higher, but they look kinda silly. This scoop I have on the hood is actually about 2" higher than the stock scoop...

I kinda thought about going with something unholy as a Chevy Cowl induction scoop. Seems that allot of racers use them on Mopars and it doesn't look that stupid, even if its a Chevy scoop on a Mopar...

Would a thinner air filter work, like a 2" instead of a 3"? Could you maybe use a drop base but modify the base and cut out or bend where it hits the regulator and then modify the filter as well? Just suggestions.

I had a 440 in my '69 with a high rise Torker II manifold and a Demon 850 carb. I had a mechanical fuel pump though. I was able to use the drop base, but I had a stock hood.

I do agree with you on putting the cleaner through the hood. It does not look good off-center like that.

Make a new base for the aircleaner that offsets it to center the aircleaner on your scoop?? If that aircleaner was in the center of the scoop it would be a interesting look...

chop a hole in the hood and put a blower on it!  :icon_smile_big:

Tom, hey buddy, heres my two cents. Get rid of the motor combo, install a 318 and be done! Or just sell me your car for pennies on the dollar and no more worries for you.  :nana:
Gees....

Sadly, looks like you need a cowl scoop set up now.

well lets see what is under the hood scoop  :icon_smile_big:

Thanks for the replies guys

OK, so we al agree that the aircleaner off center looks plain stupid...

The 2" aircleaner is also to high :brickwall: I do wish I had money to buy a roots blower :2thumbs: Then a hole in the hood would NOT be a problem, even if it wasn't centred.. I thought about an off center aircleaner for about 2 seconds, but that would really look weird once the hood is off...

Mark.. My ride was actually a 318 combo when born... :icon_smile_big:

TanTop.. The Chebby cowl scoop is actually something that I'm thinking about, and you are right, it is a more aerodynamic, but then again the front end of the Charger is like a barndoor, so the design of the scoop is really not something that matters much...

Mally69.. This is what is hidden under the scoop/hood...

I don't know what to suggest...all I can say is I don't like the air cleaner on top of the scoop. :Twocents:

It looks like you are going with the K&N filter topper, so drop the height the height of that super tall filter. You will have plenty of airflow with the K&N.

If you run a scoop and THEN cut hole in the top of it for more room, I'm going to make fun of you   :slap:

meant to say before, those valve covers look AWESOME. :2thumbs:

I say get another hood and get red of the hood scoop, the chargers are beatyful cars already. The cars that has big scoops on them look stupid. The motor can only put out so much, it only has some many iches to it. If I was you I would get red of that intake change it to another one, then some of your clearences issues will go away. Maybe do like others said and go with a shorter air filters as while, that would be two clearnce issues taken care of. The hood then should close right.  :icon_smile_big:

BTW, nice hemi covers there, I like those alot
