Nice black '68 R/T clone on Ebay... but a few oddities

Looks like it might have been a breakneck restoration because of a few details that seem a bit off. One (among several) is the missing fader speaker knob and plate but the main sore thumb it has sticking out is that steering wheel. What is it out of? It looks the same as stock on the outside but that rim blow inner part looks like something out of a Chrysler Newport or something. Were there some C-body cars that used the same wheel but a different rim blow than our 2nd gen Chargers?

Yeah, that horn ring's off.  I'm not sure what it's from, but I've seen that type of wheel on more than a few restorations.  Like starman417's Charger: http://www.starman417.com/restoration12.htm (scroll down about 2/3)

Which B-body? I've never seen one of these in a 2nd gen Charger. Is it a 1st gen deal?

IIRC, that's the same wheel I had in my '68 Coronet R/T.

This one's different.  :shruggy:  Now I'm confused, neither one have the same center that mine had.  I think...

Here's another one:  http://saginaw.craigslist.org/pts/983117569.html

Mike, that looks just like the one I have in my '68. The pic is blurry but from what I can tell it's the same, which is one of the correct wheels for '68.

gers1968rt

I used to own a mopar because it was different, but now I know better.

bull

That's got to be a carry-over from '67. I just noticed that the Ebay Charger has a pretty low sequence number, one that would have been built and sold in '67.

gers, is yours a late '67 production car? If this is another '68 oddity it's one I didn't know about or forgot about. My memory ain't what it used to be.

SeattleCharger

I woulda said chrysler newport also, but then those old charger pics you pulled up, looks like the same one there,

Why would you want anything else?  Just give me a Charger and I'll be happy.

Charger-Bodie

That horn button is the style most early 68 Chargers had......along with other oddities such as the hood style deck lid and the red white and blue inserts on the upper door pad emblems etc.

Edit: that car also has the Red White and Blues emblems I mentioned above..............And the Early style dash emblem ............and the trunk lid.........Definitely a early example!!  :Twocents:
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

Feb. '68 was the changeover to the vinyl center horn pad according to the infamously incorrect Paul Herd book.

Oh, well, mine is incorrect according to that incorrect book so two wrongs must make a right.

What's a "hood style" decklid?

tan top

it is not a complete double skin ,  has a inner frame like the hood ..all so this car has the extra supports on the rear panel  :yesnod:

Ok, I understand what hood style decklid means. That makes for another oddity since this Ebay car doesn't have that (or should I say it kind of has it).

Am I seeing things, or are those zip ties supposed to be securing the fuel line.  :shruggy:
