Yes i sure did.Paid 20k for my 69 4 speed in 2011The seller ( a forum member here ) told it was a good running and driving car that only needed some rechroming and a paintjob.
I trusted him and wired him 18k in advance, because i can not travel with such amount of cash overseas.
When i finally came to the u.s. to check the car out,it was way worse than i expected. He changed the hood for a bad one,it was not complete, and the new wheelwell mouldings that were part of the deal were gone when the car arrived here  :rotz:I was very dissapointed, but i could not get the paperwork ( and car ) if i didn't pay him the other 2k.I've already wired the 18k.So what else could i do?
Turned out it needed almost everything.
So far i have done the following things to my car:

New wiring harnesses
New brakes all around
new mastercilinder
new exhaust
new seals
rear rebuild
new wheels
new wipermotor
new headlights
new ignition lock
new distrubitor
new alternator

I still need to install my new carb, radiator, horn and rechrome everything and change the floorpanels  :icon_smile_dissapprove:
So...did i overpay for my charger? i think i was a bit screwed back then.
But when it's finally roadworthy,i forget all of the above and enjoy the car. ;)

Dude that sucks.  Who was the criminal that sold you this car?

Myk,it doesn't matter to me anymore, but i was really furious at that time, and i still am as i think of it now. :RantExplode:
It ran like a piece of crap too when i bought it He also told me the engine has just 500 miles on it since rebuild, but there were struds broken of for the valvecovers, motormount's were loose and on and on. :rotz:
I sold my 70 charger wich i've owned for 11 years to buy a 69 4-speed charger, because that was always my dreamcar.
Still saved all the emails and messages so i have still proof of what he promised me.

On the other hand, where can you find a 69 r/t 4-speed charger these days  ;) And by the looks of it,this summer she's ready to rock and roll  :drive:

Traded a 440 block for it. Depending on who you talk to, I got hosed.

Rock on, brother.  I've been ripped off and taken advantage of more times than I care to remember but like you, I've learned some things and all of that stuff is behind me now, and we and our cars are all the more better for it... See you on the roads...:2thumbs:

I paid money for mine, according to everyone on my street, it should have been the other way around

Yes! I boght my 69 2010, when prices here in Sweden where high. I had never owned an muscle car before, and not even sat in a charger. I actually bought the first one I ever saw up close.... Now there's not much left on the car that I havn't worked on in some way, so with the knowledge I have today, I would have been willing to pay about 12000 dollar less, that would have been about right. I don't think one single thing the seller told me turned out to be true!

But the upside is, now I have a nice car and it's been awesome owning and working on the car all the way! And I honestly don't care if I get the money back or not, I own my dream car and that's the thing for me. But like I said, today I would do it a bit different....

I found mine as a project . The price was good, more then fair, but I took my best bud with to play devils advocate. He was suppose to be the critical eye since I knew my judgement would be clouded. What happened was, I offered the guy X amount of $ less, and after a few minutes of haggling, my bud tells me to just pay the guy his full price  because "the car ws worth every bit that much"... right in front of the guy that owned it :brickwall: . Knowing how pricey it can be to piece these cars together, I felt negotiating even on a fair price should have been reasonable. :shruggy:  I did manage to have the owner load and haul it to my house an hour and a half away for free, so,  it worked out well in my book  :2thumbs:

Probably, but that is old news.  I bought mine at the top of the market.  I didn't know about this site then, sure would have helped.  Anyway the money's gone and I can't get it back.  Car was a lot worse off than I thought.

On the good side, I can't tell you how much fun it has been working on it, plus talking with all those folks on this forum that help.  Just wish I could get it running so I can drive it.  All good things come to those who wait (and lay on cardboard over concrete under their car.)

I purchased a rock solid '67 Charger with no rust for $500.00 about ten years ago for an ad in Auto Trader.  The Charger was complete (even the taillights were in good condition), just needed new seat covers, carpet.  The motor and transmission were missing, but the seller included a 440 short block and some other assorted parts with the purchase.   I doubt if I could score a deal like this today.  So yes I got a good deal.   About five years later I purchased a 1970 Charger SE for $1,200.00 from a used car lot.  Needed new front seat covers, some front end work, and that was about it.  So yes, that was another good deal.  If this car was for sale today in the same condition, it would have sold for ten times the price. I couldn't replace either of these Chargers for anywhere near what I originally paid for them.

Up here in Canada, good God yeah I paid through the a$$!  Second gens here are easily 30-40% more.  Paid 24.5k for a complete green 68 440 for what would have cost approximately 16-19k in the US.

It's my dream car, so it was worth it, although there are the days where I think, was it?

Paid $15K for mine with its trunk and my wife's suv loaded with parts, including a spare grill (missing half of the center section but still!).  I replaced the few bulbs that didn't work and drove the pants off of it.  I think I did good.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

Back N Black

I bought mine in 2005, when the prices where high. The good, it was pretty much rust free California car, that was already stripped down to the bare bones. So, there was no suprises during the rebuild. With today's prices i  over paid around 2 grand.  :'(

HeavyFuel

 :shruggy:

Paid 6K for it in 1991.  Numbers '68 R/t.

Was in pretty decent shape, a little body work needed here and there....not much.  Very complete, unmolested stock condition.

But faded paint, speaker holes in the doors, indoor /outdoor carpeting, rusty trunk, little dings here and there, dull chrome, etc warrented a resto.

I gave it a total disassemble and resto back to stock (over a twenty year span).  Ball park that pricetag at about 20K.

So I overpaid for this car with my life, basically it took 20 years to get on the road, the way I wanted the car to be.

Should have spent more money for a 'done' car.

I got great deals on all three of my cars which is why I have bought all 3 of them.
-I have had my red Charger R/T S.E. 23+ years & to this day I still have not even put but couple of thousand dollars into it since I have owned it. It is now appraised & insured at over 4 times what I have into it.
-My Challenger was a good deal because it was missing the engine & trans so I can build it my way. Eventually, I will probably have way more into than it is worth but as of right now it looks like I have way more into than I do.
-My other Charger 500 S.E. was too good of a deal to pass up. He told me a price, bring the trailer & get it out of his way. No money down, no interest, make payments whenever I can, did not care how long it took to pay it off. I gave him $200.00 down anyway & paid it off in less the a year. Could probably double or almost triple my money as it sits but I am not a flipper. I wil restore it someday.

- Bought my first Charger in 1990 for $1,400. Everyone thought I overpaid  :scratchchin: It was a 1968 NOM 440 car, and was full of bond, but a really good job as an early rest. Whole car was skimmed, which I re-did, as panels didn't exist like today. There was no AMD back then... Sold it for $3,000 in 1991, a year after buying...

Looking for 20 years for the "right" Charger, I underpaid for my next two cars, or as they say, they were "well-bought", with one being an R/T

Not too bad I don't think. Gave $3500 for it in 1999 and drove it home from a little over an hour away (very interesting drive home by the way) It was a running and driving car sort of. The brakes had been changed from drum to disc but the booster was bad and the pedal was hard as a brick trying to stop with it and the front end was in bad shape so if you hit a dip in the road it was weaving all over the road. The torsion bars were actually on the wrong side's the left one was on the right side and the right one was on the left side. Still it was a 383 factory 4-speed car and it was in decent shape considering so between then and now it has had a major make over and quite a bit spent on it but that is over a 15 year period so it hasn't hit the wallet too hard and I am pretty sure I can get my money back if I ever wanted to sell. I have enjoyed it alot over the years I have owned it also so it is well worth it to me.  :2thumbs:

xoman60

Yeah, I probably paid to much but I love the car so I can't complain about how much I paid. I wanted a 4 speed with a 440 and everything else stock so that's what I got. Im not into the numbers matching thing so that didn't matter. I think the previous owner really loved and took care of it.  So bottom line is I have a smile on my face driving this beauty around sunny Florida so that's all that matters to me.

ws23rt

I still think I did ok with $900 for my 69 coronet rt 4sp hemi car in 1980.  It's a 50K miles car without engine and trans. The car is running now with all original metal and interior.

End thread.  Honestly, for what my car means to me it's priceless...
