Hi all, been a lurker here for close to a year, never posted because I don't currently own a Charger. Live in Queens, NY. I actually just found a 69 non r/t looks to be original over the weekend under a tarp, owned by an older gent of possibly 80 years old. Apparently not for sale, and has been sitting for 30 years. I am trying like hell to get it!(no pics yet)  But I actually stumbled upon a possible project opportunity, and needed the opinion of the experts. I found a 71 Duster shell, that appears to be in pretty good shape, minimal rust, but alas no drivetrain. My question to you all is what would you pay for this? Do you think it would be worth it to throw a decent paint job and possibly a 340 and a tranny in, and look towards selling it, or is it a waste of time? This is the only pic I have, I requested more, let's see if it's even still available.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome.....................
I wouldn't think it a waste of time.. If it's just missing the drivetrain, that's no biggie.. Looks like a nice complete car otherwise... Good color combination and you can't beat that it's an original 340 car....... I woud try getting it for $2000 as a starting point.. But, if you can get it for less on the angle it needs a drivetrain, go for $1000...  :icon_smile_big:

Good luck.

Troy, they owner is asking 400 for the shell. I just have to see if everything is going to fall into place. Wrong time of the year to be buying(holidays, wife's bday in Jan..)
Thunder, thanks for the well wishes, I think someone on here has written about the car before, I know I read about a car under a cover, just can't remember when. I searched 32 pages of threads this morning...lol
Funny part is when the wife and I went to look at it, she said "How the hell did you even see this thing?" I said I was going in the opposite direction, and saw an 86 Ramcharger in the lot, and recognized the Charger even under the cover. She thinks we are all nuts, but understands.

I thought so, he parted it out, this is his ad
"Hey got a 1971 plymouth duster was a 4spd i took the drivetrain ( no im not selling the 4spd ) it has a v8 k frame MINT FLOOR NO rot ! has sum rust on fenders its really clean its primer grey wit it peeling off has door panels not the best of shape but u can fix them... it rolls..." My only real confusion is whether or not it was a 340, and is the one pictured the car.

LOL thanks Dan, I know, but I was more interested in sitting here quietly and squirreling away the knowledge that everyone puts out there, still got alot to learn.

Thad..
Here's a good site to learn things from and reference...
Concerning your engine 'code', is the 5th digit "H"?  Again, sounds like a really solid project, original drivetrain or not........ You can find 4-speeds and 340's..........

Welcome aboard.. We all still have plenty to learn. That's one of the perks of a site like this. Someone has dealt with just about every problem with these cars and we all share the knowledge to fix them...

By the way, I don't own a Charger and haven't since the mid 80's.....

Thanks Steve, I was 2hrs from the one that got away in 92, 72 SE  with a 440 for 495 dollars. But I've really been a B body guy since I was 4.

Welcome to the site.  It sounds like a good deal on the Duster, even if it turns out to be a 318 car.  You can always build it the way you would want it and for $400, you would have money to put into the engine.  It is pretty hard to find decent Mopar projects like that one without costing alot more.....

Hi Chad, thanks for the welcome. It does sound like a decent deal, no matter what mill it was originally. The idea would be build it decent for as few bucks as possible, and hopefully turn a little profit that could go towards a charger, but we'll see. I am forver the optimist...lol

Aside from here and ebay, anyone have good sources for purchasing a motor, understanding that I'm not willing to travel too awful far. We're talking 318,340,383, or 440. No HEMI's in my future unless one falls out of a truck...lol
