Hi Guys its been a while since my last post I found a charger the owner is not sure what year it is I know it first generation I checked the vin at my mopar.com and its telling me its a 67 440 375 horse 4v( L CODE ) and the car does have a factory 4 speed I am pretty sure its a matching # car seems to be rust free I have to take a better look does anyone know if this was a special order I thought they were 383s for that year and WHAT IS IT WORTH ??. Thanks Jim

67 was the first year that a 440 was available in a Charger.  As for all being 383's, you could also get a 318 or 426 Hemi in addition to the 440 and 383.  Whats it worth?  That depends.

There were 132 1967 440 four speed Chargers built.  They all came with Dana rear ends, as did the hemi four speeds.  It's worth picking up if the price is reasonable.  Worth more if it's early built and still has the recall steering wheel, original dual point distributor, original carb and air cleaner, chrome valve covers, correct drivers side exhaust manifold, HP block, etc.  1967 was the first year for optional headrests, magnum 500 rims, passenger side door mirror, and a couple other goodies.  The car probably came originally with red line tires, but not all 440s did.  So much of the stuff on that car was one year only and is difficult (expensive) to find.  There are a few on this board.  I have one.  Prices were up there when other cars were high but not hemi money.  Like everything else it depends on condition completeness a and how desperate the seller is.  Let us know if you pick it up.

I am not sure of how complete it is it needs full cometic restoration interor, maybe minor body work the original motor is there along with the dana rear end and the transmission drivetrain is all there
hes wants $10.000 ? I dont think hell budge on the price. Could you please give me some tips on where all the numbers are Block, rear end, tranny and build dates so I can match it ???I need some help here ! Thanks Jim

An aside but I think the "recall" steering wheel is more of a late build thing.  The "recall" part is a misnomer that implies the wheels were released and then, obviously, recalled.  In truth, a slightly different version was scheduled to be built but never were because of the safety issue.  Consequently, the revised version that finally took it's place became more of a late build item.

Unfortunately, on a 67, it's a little tougher to do the "numbers matching" thing since it doesn't quite work the same way that people assume.  If you look on the rad cradle, you'll find an SO number and you can dervie a scheduled build date from that.  Then you'll have to find a casting date on the side of the block and it should precede the build date.  Beyond date codes, there isn't a lot more to check.

Should be a pad on the 440 at the front of the intake manifold, driver's side that would say something like "C 440 HP". Would be a quick check. C is at least a '67 440, and HP would be the high performance version that came in it.

Can you get the VIN and post or register it through the 1966-67 Charger Registry?

Thanks!

That`s all you want are vin`s, I thought you wanted the whole enchilada or the car wouldn`t be registered

FastbackJon

Everything would be nice, but the VIN is a bare minimum. SONUMBER is next best thing to have along with the VIN as it tells the build date.
