engine head assembly freeze plug

hi - the freeze plug on the drivers side head assembly is leaking - it is pretty close to the engine bay firewall - do i have to remove the whole assembly to remove the freeze plug??  or is there a certain tool i can use to remove the freeze plug and install a new one??  i already replaced the freeze plug that on the assembly located near the fan.  any help would be appreciated.  thanks
