Is it as simple as just getting new bulbs? I thought you needed to add some kind of resistor?

on Superbrightled.com (not sure if that's the correct name) they have flashers to replace the stock ones so the rate is correct.  Or they have inline resistors to correct the same problem.

Almost...that place does 68,69-70 conversions and E-bodies...not 3rd Gens. Question is why would you spend almost $300 for a taillight "conversion" when you could just buy LED bulbs for $160?

Why do it at all?  What's the advantage?  Sure looks pricey for a light bulb.

Really the best reason to get them is they light a fraction of a second faster than "normal" bulbs.

Which from what I have read translates into 16' at 60mph. I dont know if thats true or not.....

but lets face it 1' could be the difference between a nice ride home and disaster.

And if your going to buy make sure you do some research.

Some of the LED's are awesome but many of them you
will be disappointed with.

distinctive look
very bright
very low power consumption (which is nice considering how old some of our wires are :D)
ridiculously long life
faster on/off transition

Personally I'll wait 'til it's a bit more affordable, but there are plenty of reasons :)

I still haven't found someone that gets brighter than incandescent or at least equal... SHOULD IT BE but by now, I haven't found some decent ones for automotive use, at least locally

I don't neded they are brighter, just equal, and don't care about faster On/Off. Just making less heat ( what will save the lenses from melt/dry/crack ) and less consumption will be enough for me, but as far they don't save the FOCUS stuff, I'll pass.

I've thought for years that cars should have at least a two-stage setup for brake lights.  Hit the brakes harder than normal, and the brake lights come on brighter/more abruptly.


Like make the normal brake lights just use traditional bulbs (softer light-up).  And then have some additional LED lights (in the same housings) that light up instantly when the driver hits the brakes more abruptly than normal. 

The combination of soft and harsh light-ups would probably be quite effective at selectively drawing the extra attention just when it really counts.

Actually, the same effect could be done more efficiently by driving the LEDs with a PWM signal :)

No, it's a rapidly oscillating square waveform.  In this particular application, it would simulate any given voltage between full-off and full-on by altering what percentage of the square wave output is high and what percentage is low.  So, for example, 12v would be 100% high, 0v would be 0% high, 6v would be 50% high, etc.  Nearly all cheap (as in $1 or so) microcontrollers have built-in PWM timers now.  Sure, that adds some complexity to your system, but since we're already talking about LED tail lights, analog brake pedal sensors and brake lights that respond to pedal conditions, we're already talking about needing an ECU anyway.

Nacho what you are looking for is a high output LED with a wide lens on it.

Not very practical for a taillight because of size however.

Ive been messing with some 10mm LEDS in my 69 lens with some interesting results.
But at this time nothing so far that I think suits it.

The other problem is that its a bit difficult to "disappear" into the night if you have tailights that
are brighter than the sun.

these really looks like a good ones, BUT WOW... I can't afford them.

will have to wait untill the become popular and get lowered prices.

One thing for sure, will try to get same or similar temp color than stock ones ( yellowish or slightly yellowish ) on in fact stock black face gauges... as stated I'm not looking for more bright, like less heat and consumption. I think I'm definitelly light sensitive.

Wow, ligts are bright.  I see you may have the same A/c vent issue I have with the flaps not connected together via rear bar slider thingy.
Where did you get the awesome A/C, heater control buttons?  They look like new.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Looks great auto dynamics.

And yes you can dim LEDs, they are perfect for that.
