TPMS, for short, the question is: is this nonsense becoming mandated on new cars and if so when.  This is another needless feature that I don't want or need.  I just want to know how soon I need to purchase a vehicle to avoid it. I know I could search but it should make an interesting topic.
PS if you can't check your air pressure, don't drive!

I suppose it's being slipped in under the guise of promoting fuel economy?

When I worked for Lithia dodge about 2 years ago, they said at about 2009 it will be mandtory on most makes and models. I think its retarded as hell $80 about per tire for the stupid sensor and they freak out when the temperature changes.

All they'd have to do is compute the # of revolutions the tire is making and compare it to the other three.  That would probably do the job just with the existing wheel speed sensors they use for the ABS systems.

I love the TPMS. Mine has the read out of each tire, not just the dummy light. My wheels were recently warrantied & I've got a leak, the TPMS is a life saver. I would have drove down the road then found out the hard way w/o TPMS. The one thing to not use on those TPMS stems is metal valve stem covers, unless you use antisieze.
