Cobra 78x 40chnl C.B. Radio (SN#87061447) ??

Lately, I've noticed my Cobra 78x 40chnl C.B. Radio (SN#87061447) hasn't been working to well - the squelch has to be turned over all the way before it can pickup anything and the output meter doesn't appear to move. Upon further testing using the C.B. in my truck, it appears to only send out garbled static with only a few recognizable words.  Anyone familiar with this brand and know how to tweek it for maximum results?
