that being said, im guessing its th same for my 69 going from a 318/904 8 3/4 to a 440/727 8 3/4

How hard is it to get some one to shortern a drive shaft?  or is a new shaft just as expensive ?

If you have a quality machine shop nearby- thats where I would take it. I just had my driveshaft shorten and balanced for $35,  I'm pretty good friends with some of the guys that work there, if not I'd bet they would have charged $50 or more.
