I am putting together a 46re for my 99 ram 1500. The metal check ball that goes against the rooster comb (gear selector) in the valve body (which is under spring pressure)went mia (even though I used a zip tie-it launched). I need this before I can go any further. Does the aftermarket sell those or are they the same as a 727 trans? I would be willing to buy a whole valve body if it was cheap enough and came with this. I know rebuild kits don't have them and I have a feeling that the dealer doesn't either. I was going to check with some local trans shops too. Any help and advice is appreciated.

I am pretty sure that you need Chrysler part # 147488. The part retails for .20 cents, and it looks like there are none in any of the Chrysler Depots. I would have my local dealer do a locate on the partr number as there are plenty around in dealers inventories

The part is identified as "ball, manual lever detent  .343 diameter "

71 Bee-thanks so much I'll check with my dealer tomorrow and see.  I was told by another member that the ball diameter is the same as the 727-wish I had one I could spare!

The detent ball is just an 11/32" like used in ball bearings, if you have some old bearings lying around check the ball diameter.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

The local trans shop should help.  The crustier the shop, the more helpful, in my experience.  They may not want to bother charging you either.  Older shops buy core transmissions for the usual parts that wear out and have lots of extra parts left over.

All,
Thanks for the advice-71 superbee was on the mark.  I had to special order it but his part number was referenced to a new one for the same part.  Boy am I glad I was able to get that.  :2thumbs:
