Great shots Doug.

Now if you don't pull the springs off of the headlight doors I may just have to come do it myself!

I know!  I know!  it's on the list...

what's the best way to do it?  I'm a little nervous about damaging the car with the spring.  do you simply unbolt the bracket?

oh and we just bought another V2 440 Daytona at Mecum--the former black cherry car is back again!

Honestly I don't remember - it's been a few years.  But do be careful as there is a good amount of energy stored in the spring, you don't want to give the nose an "outie".

The Happy Days Daytona was the black cherry car that Donna Schill owned in Milwaukee.   She bought it from Florida arounf 1979 and did the custom work.   She sold it in the mid 80's to Indiana.  From there it wound up at Happy Days.    Don't know where it is now, but it's not Dave's car.

My boss owned it for a while, and selling the car was the catalyst for opening Best of Show...  I'm not sure where it is now.

that car was V2 and not R4 anyway .

a correct one's in there now, and the lead has been removed from the nose-to-fender area.

Doug,
I just unbolted the bracket and released as much tension as possible, then slid the spring off the shaft with some bent needle nose pliers.
Just be careful not to just "pop" the spring off, dent the nose from the inside and then let the headlight bucket slam down!
Good luck with that!
he hardest part is getting access to the bracket and bolt!
just like most of these "little" projects, be patient and you'll have no problems.

patient?  what does that mean?

the COOL thing about the Daytona for this little job is that there are big holes in the bottom of the nose to stick your hands into AND a big slot in the front to see into!

take either one we have.  the one with the daytona stuns me for a second every time I turn a corner and see it (I'm VERY protective of the wing cars) and the other one is just flat out molester-type creepy.  i'll have to take some more shots.

69_500

Maybe you should put some glasses on them, and put a bag of candy on their side. Just to add some effect ya know.

pettybird

not aero, but still very, very cool cars.  it's a heck of a picture, too!

the pink one is a true FM3 car, #'s match auto car, the B3 car has a gator grain top (V1G) and a B5 interior, T/A block with the correct 4 speed transmission.

a couple shots where some parts are more blurred than others--i would have loved to do better but that's where the cars were parked!
