Help! Should I keep the funky Inland 4 speed with the console, or should I move it on up to a Hurst Comp. Plus? The Inland looks cool, and all, but is it worth it?

Your call...the Inland shifters were only made in 66, 67, & the first half of 68.....parts are hard to find, I still have the Inland style in both my 66 Chargers....no problems with either of them.....one is still 160,000 mile original car

I'm going to at least try the original Inland in my early '68 Charger but I also have a Hurst I can use. I have heard you can have the best of both worlds by mating the Inland with Hurst linkages but I've yet to see the details on such an upgrade.

Go to the Brewers Performance website (http://www.brewersperformance.com/products.asp?id=50, and look up the the hurst shifter for the below copied text:

I thought about doing this for my Inland shifter, but will probably just use a recently acquired Hurst shifter I bought.  :2thumbs:

Thanks, I slept on it and I'm going to keep it. I just need to find the rods and plates...well,  everything except the shifter and mechanism...

I still have the Inland in my hemi car and it still works very well.  My 440 car has the Brewers conversion and it is well worth the money, if your Inland reverts to the guess-a-gear status they are known for.  That's why I replaced it.  I have a Hurst competition plus in the 383 car.  All of them work well, so I guess I've nothing to add.

Don't have one but I checked out the Brewers conversion units at the Nats and I can vouch for the fact that by all appearances they seem to be a great product.  It doesn't really add to what ITSA426 already said either but then his driving testimony pretty much sums it up anyway.

dpm68

Yea, they call the old Inlands "mystery shifters"  - especially with a console. I'm going to take my chances and see what's up. If it doesn't work, I'll move up to the comp plus. It's just that the reverse lockout looks so damn cool...I'll post some pics this weekend when I shoot it.

Ghoste

That's why the Brewers conversion is so nice though.  You get the cool original look of the Inland with the crisp functionality of the Comp Hurst hidden secretly underneath.

ITSA426

I did have to put a piece of plastic tube under the shift knob on the Brewer's set up to stop the noise because the lockout cable broke, and the pull up handle developed an annoying buzzing sound.  Easy fix, doesn't show and still looks original.

Where in the world can I find the missing shift rods and related hardware for my Inland?

What does a Inland Shifter look like? :shruggy: :shruggy: :shruggy:
I have never seen a pic of one...

I'm not home, so I can't be of any help here. I will post a snap of it tomorrow if it's not done before...

Here's a pic of the bent-handle Inland console shifter.
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

Here's mine before I gutted the interior. The T-bar beneath the knob is the reverse lockout.
