I have decided to move back home from Hawaii things aren't going well with work at all and I miss everything back home as well. I am planing on having my Belvedere shipped back as well but the way I look at it it is cheaper to have it shipped to California and put it in storage then pick it up from there in the spring, then have it shipped all the way to Ohio. So what places would you suggest I have it stored at or if you want to keep it at your place thats fine because I would have it sent to the port of Long Beach and I am having a shipping company take care of it because it will be cheaper than getting a container and shipping it myself. Also would one of you guys be able to make sure that it is delivered and there is no damage (I'll send you lots of pictures of it before I ship it.) I will compensate you for your help in this and when I come out in the spring I'll meet up with and you can have a cold one on me  Also on my way back I am going to try and see a bunch of places along the way back. Mostly in the southern part because I am meeting up with someone in Fort Worth,Texas so if anyone has some good places to stop along the way or doesn't mind me dropping by to say hi  just let me know. I'll probably b traveling with my little sister because I owe her because of what she went through when I left. I do plan on stopping at the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, DVAP (I need to pick up some parts), maybe New Orleans, and from there I think I am going to shoot straight up to Ohio probably stop at Mammoth caves as well. I will probably be leaving for CA beginning of June once my sister gets out of class. And the Belvedere would be leaving here around December 17th trying to get to the docks only a day or so before the ship sails so it is not sitting around less chance for it to get damaged. Any help with this moved/trip is greatly appreciated.

I'm in the Bay Area, and would be happy to help with any details if your car comes in this way. I don't know of a good place to store the car that is priced reasonably, and I have no room at my home.

It would be smarter to have it shipped all the way to Ohio in one transaction. Fewer bad things would happen to it if it was in your possession.  :Twocents:

Good luck!

Space is at a premium in the LA area.

I would help ya out but I dont have space.

Im sure a lot of guys are in the same boat out here.

What would it cost a month to have parked at a storage place, just a rough estimate. And would it be any cheaper if it was further away from the center of town.

Tell them they will have a nice car at their house that they can tease the neighbors about.

I looked into that and it would add another 1400 on top of the 1500 it would cost to get it to the west coast. Plus at this point I don't have the extra money to do that and what could be better than taking a week off and cruising across the country in an Belvedere.

Sorry to hear that Hawaii didn't go as planned.

As for the car, it sounds like it makes more sense to sell it where you are now in Hawaii than to ship it, store it, secure it, then go back to where it is & drag it home at a later date. Compare the cost of buying another one to replace it once you're settled & I bet you'll come out ahead. Also, you'll have the additional piece of mind that goes with not having to scramble to find storage & shippers that you can trust.   :Twocents:

Edit:  No offense, but I'm basing my suggestion on the fact that the car you are looking to ship is a 4 door Belvedere & not a Hemi Charger. You have to be realistic in deciding on whether the cost of shipping it, storing it, & then the expense of going back to where it is at a later date to get it home, will end up being far more money than what the car is worth.

I saw the pics, it is a nice car, but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's amazing enough to warrant the trouble & expense he's possibly facing to get it home. If you take the original purchase price (whatever that is) then add the other fees involved with getting it home, I bet another car very similar can be had for the same or less. Don't forget that he posted that he can't afford to get it from CA to where he lives which tells me he's on a tight budget. Sorry to say, but the reality is that most people don't believe a 4 door is worth that kind of money & it makes no sense to get into serious debt over it.

Moving out of Hawaii?  C'mon!  We are living vicariously through you right now, can you stay and stick it out longer?

Can you ship the car to Long Beach and then drive it home from there?

If not i say sell it in Hawaii and put the money towards your Charger.

Well things aren't going good at work at all and if I quit I have nowhere to live plus rent at any place would take away most of my money I think I would barely have enough money for gas after paying rent and buying food. The only reason I am staying until December is so I can finish class. Also now that I think of it maybe I could ship it to CA and then drive it to Texas this winter and have my buddy keep it there till next spring becuase I don't want to bring it up into Ohio during the winter. I want to keep the car because it is a survivor which is amazing for out here and I only bought it for $2900.

After talking with my parents i found out that my cousin who is in the Air Force and out here doesn't plan to stay in once his tour is up in 8 months. I am going to try and talk to him to see if he can ship it back but I do know he does have a motorcycle and that may cause some problems. Of course I would give him some money for doing this. But if that doesn't work I think I am going to have to sell it what do you think I could get for it.

PocketThunder

In todays market, maybe 75% of what you paid for it.

$1400 to ship a $2900 4-door Belvedere? What's is going to cost to store it and/or drive it across the US?

Yer crazy. Here's a better plan: Sell the car. Quit your crappy job. Buy a 1-way open ended ticket to Ohio. Party until you run out of money (post pictures). Get on the plane back to Ohio when youre broke.
