The brother of the guy I bought my charger from has a pretty sweet 71 RR with a 340 4bbl

The right one is a GTX.

Looks like a sweet find!

Dont ruin the car. Rotted or not she deserves to be saved  :yesnod:

Plus you have plenty of extras...i say you drop in that 440-6 that comes with the car into your 72 charger.

Or what came to be of the 70 cuda? im sure if its still around the owner would pay good to get that engine back and you can easily use that money to go twards the RR or your Charger...heck even the 4 speed and the other 440.

In the end its up to you...but that 72 seems to be optioned very well and not a dime a dozen. If you were talking about tearing apart some plane jane 318 charger thats not worth to restore then fine...but in my eyes that car should be restored not parted.

:iagree:

Parting that car (or removing the original drive train) would be a VERY  :badidea:  almost criminal in the eyes of some.

1972 was the last of the 440 4-speed cars...  we need to keep 'em around!  Please do some real  on this before you proceed.  The Runner will be worth a LOT more when restored than the 340 Rallye Charger...

Thanks for the response's.    I just needed to hear what you guys thought.

I guess I just needed a good :slap:

When I said I thought about putting the drive-train in the Rallye car....................THAT was my first thought being thats the car I"VE BEEN LOOKING FOR PARTS FOR,   But now after really finding out how many they made and to have it be a one owner car with paper work..............Its just too nice of find to part out.  This car deserves to be restored.

Old Moparz

Nice find, & glad to hear you aren't parting it out.   :2thumbs:

I usually don't care at all about matching numbers, but to find something rare with a very low production number that's basically still together, is kind of cool. I like the 71 & 72 Road Runners a lot, so it'll be good to see it restored as long as you can find parts.

Which definitely won't be easy for this one.  ::)

didnt notice it earlier but that is a 71 quarter panel.

Thats the one thing about the car that make we wonder about  restoring the car.   See,  the car was rolled back in 1973 or 74 and they had a body shop cut the car in half and they put a rear clip off a 71 road runner on.   He continued to drive it that way until around 1982  and then he walked away and left it for dead on his brothers property.   They did a decent job from looking underneath the car but it makes me wonder about the value of the car when its all restored. :shruggy: :shruggy:

What do you guys think? :popcrn:

FLG

Its all just sheet metal. I would say almost ALL of restos include new quarters, 35 or so years of sitting really eats away at that metal. Unless it was pristine to begin with then the person is going to be replacing some panels. Do the resto, put the 72 parts back on and trust me...no one will care once its all done and it wont make one bit of difference when it comes to value. Granted you will never get as much as a true survivor car but you wont get any less then any other RR with those specs thats also been restored.

High Impact

Well, last nite I spent about 4 hours cleaning the leaves out and power washing all the years of dirt off the car.  It cleaned up pretty good!  The biggest bonus was that the motor wasn't stuck and it rolls over.  I didnt expect that!

Here are a couple pics from last nite.

RD

looks remarkably in good shape.. wow.. didnt expect that

how does the interior look?

Looks like the front was B5 and the back was Y1.  Something to keep in mind if you restore this car... Unless the back half was a also a 440-4speed car, you may be missing some the structural reinforcements that those cars came with (commonly called torque boxes). There were reinforcements at the front of the rocker, front spring perch area and rear spring perch area.

Glad you're doing the right thing!  :2thumbs:

The back half of the car was 71 satelite and Im pretty sure it dosent have the extra reinforcements............Im not even sure if Id know what they were suppose to look like.  ANYONE GOT A PICTURE?

Also,  anyone have any ideas what to soak the carb's in to get the throttle shafts to move.   They dont look that bad but all three are froze.

RallyeMike

Wow. Great find. Just finding the wide Dana is a score.

Try WD40 or any of those penetrators on the shafts. Just let is soak in for several days. Dont force them.

PB Blaster is a good option too.
:iagree:

I don't even use WD40 any more. PB Blaster is way better, and works faster.
