The reason I'm asking this is because the college that is going to rebuild my 440 might not have time to get to it, but they can rebuild my 727 for me. The donor car that houses the 440/727 still runs and drives, and I would like to put my old 904 into it so I can move it around the yard. Is it possible to swap its 727 out for the 904 if it is only used for a short time?

Well, yes, but it has to be a small block 727.   There is a difference it I'm not mistaken.

So will a 727 bolt onto a 318?

A small block 727 will but not a bigblock 727.

Is there an adapter that will work or anything?

It kinda sucks, I thought I could at least get one part of the drivetrain done this year. :-\

I'm a little confused as to why you would want to put a 904 behind a 440. :scratchchin:

If the college can not get to my 440, then the old 318 will have to stay in the charger, but the college said they do have time to rebuild the 727. What I was hoping to do was to but the 727 trans in the charger so at least it would have the better transmision in it. Then put the 904 in the old new yorker so I could at least move it around if I have to. When the 440 goes in the charger it will be mated to the 727, but until then I was hoping to have the 904 work with the 440.

I wouldn't let the college work on my lawn mower.  Several years ago, 25+? my dumb-assed brother drove his '68 mustang to the local vocational college.

" To get a paint job--cheap"

"I just have to pay for the paint"

I told him "Don't do it you cheap-ass! You're going to get screwed"

Several months later he was called to "Come get your car"

He asked how the paint job turned out and they told him " How can we work on it with all of the parts missing?"

What he had to pay to have a wrecker tow home was a stripped rolling shell, sanded down to bare metal and left outside to rust...

No engine...

No tranny...

No glass...

No interior...

No trim...

Nobody knew what happened to the rest of the car :shruggy:

I said "Saved a bundle there, didn't you Dumbass?"

Did I mention this was a rust free 25,000 mile car he got cheap from the original owner?  The paint was starting to fade a little...so instead of paying for the paintjob it deserved...he took it to the college....

He's still got that piece of shit in his garage-still rusted and stripped ::)

And he's still a dumbass :eek2:
