I'm messing with you Troy Maki.  Here is a grille we are shipping back to Troy for his car, we just finished it and he hasn't seen any pictures yet. 

I found a pretty good grille to start with on Wednesday after we dropped the trailer at the Nats, not a bad piece for its age.  Had the typical cracks as usual, looks really cool with all new rivits and plating.  So now Troy, everyone of our friends here on DC gets to see your grille first.

Doing them right is a pain in the a$$.  Not really, it's very time consuming doing it the right way.  You'll have a full day in it just masking for paint, not counting repairing all the cracks and missing tabs. 

Can you tell which one of the head light buckets had the bottom end broken off?  We had to remove it from a destroyed donor and surgically implant it into the good one.

It's really hard to put a number on a grille, it could be as high as $1,500 - $2,000 depending on how broken up it is.  It's not for everyone, the grille, when it's done, could go into any over the top restored car.

Worth the wait? Come on Troy, the grille you sent me was run over by a semi and I was on a mission to get you one at the Nats.  So lets do the math, 4 weeks? Not bad.  The biggest time consuming part for both of us was to find a grille that could be restored.

I have 3 BEA boxes, they are double 400 pounders each and can be thrown across the room and stood on so lets see if UPS has their way with them. 

Troy, make sure you inspect the boxes when you get them, I have them insured for $900 each.

Thanks again for doing it.  It turned out better than I ever imagined. 

If any of you are thinking of using Mike for his resto service or to buy parts from him, I highly recommend it.  Everything I have purchased and now this has been great. Mike is a great guy to deal with and you will not be disappointed in the products.

Awesome. The price is not bad considering at best you might be able to find a NOS grille in that price range. And even so im sure it might need some refreshing from sitting on a shelf for 30 years. Nice work

Mike, that grill looks perfect. I recall our conversation on the phone about this very subject not too long ago. I restored my own 68 grill and can tell you that saying it is time consuming is just the tip of the iceburg. My grill came out super nice. I have over 150 hours of my time invested plus paint and supplies. Then after I finished it, it looked so good I just couldn`t put the old metal trim back on it so I purchased new trim from Gunslinger. I also put NOS emblems on it. I`m not putting the trim on it until I`m ready to install it into the car because I don`t want to risk damaging it but I did test fit it and it looks great. I had a very nice grill to begin with and it looks super now! I have lots of patience and enjoy trying to do these types of things myself as that is half the enjoyment of this hobby, but I wouldn`t restore another grill for even $1,000.00 in labor cost even for a friend! Troy, enjoy your grill, believe me, it was worth whatever price you paid.

1970 Coronet grille would be an excellant choice and all of the used ones you find are cracked
