Hello,

I am Mr Ashley Hayes from Chester, VA, I am interested in immediate purchase of your item and i will be handling the shipment myself, I will make an arrangement with a shipping company that will come for the pick-up of the item from you place after you have gotten the payment, so whats the final asking price for the item ? And i will also be making the payment through a certified cashier check or money order, so i want you to send me some current pictures of the item. And also get back to me with your full contact name and address and also your telephone number so that the payment can be issue and mail out without any further delay.

Best Regards,
Mr Ashley Hayes.

That wouldn't get me. Too wordy, too generic.  :Twocents:

Too good to be true. They want to give you a bad check and take your stuff as well as get personal info from you. Don't even respond to it. I put an ad on Craigslist and the first 6 responses to the ad were all written like the one you posted. Scammers! :flame:

I think it is a scam.  I got the exact same message, but the name/location was different.  I got an e-mail about a set of wheels I had on craigslist.  It just asked if the item was still for sale.  I replied that they were.  Then I got an e-mail like the one you got there.  I thought it was fishy, so I went back to the first e-mail and noticed they didn't ask if the wheels were for sale, they said 'item'.  Seems pretty general to me.  There is a highlighted section above the message in e-mails that craigslist sends out warning about scams.  You can click on that to learn about what goes on.  It says there that people will give you a counterfeit check/money order :nono:.  It may clear your bank, but if there is further review and it is found to be false, the bank comes after you for the money.  The people that sent it to you may use a different identity, so it would be hard for you to get your money back :flame:.  I didn't send my info because like I said, it seemed kinda fishy...and now that you got pretty much the same message, I'm sure it is.

So guy,s how do you sell anything, I mean what is the correct procedure for getting your money and knowing what is or is not a scam? I have a lot of 69 parts I am going to get rid of and this would be good info for me.

Thanks

mikepmcs

definite scam.

post your parts for sale here. :2thumbs:

if not then sell em on ebay and accept paypal.  Ebay is still ok for the most part except it has turned into a something for nothing marketplace.

Just tell them if they really want the "item", they can wire the funds from their bank to YOUR bank.  You'll even pop for the wiring fee.
