Ok so my 440 has been balanced rebuilt etc. Edelbrock aluminum heads...etc. .501 lift. TTI headers and X pipes. 10:1

so...........I am torn between a edelbrock 7193 intake with an 850

or

that fancy looking edelbrock 5440 dual 4 barrel intake with 2 600's thats this months 'special package deal' from Mancini.

any opinions or experiences?

car has freshly rebuilt 18 spline 833 with a shatterproof bellhousing. I have made everything as beefy as possible.

this car is 100% for fun on the street. It has a very strong rear end now ( resprung SS leaves, dana 60 with a girdled diff cover, qa1 shocks all around, swaybars, adj drag links, tubuler UC arms , subframe connectors etc.

customer car picked up 33hp from going from dual 600's to a single 950 holley....      single 4bbl will always make more power it seems and the holley has greater tunability - if you like edelbrocks i dont blame you - they are great carbs too...    go with a single 850

get a demon 850, reasonable price and they kick the hell out of the holley and the edelbrock... period.  got one on my 400 in my charger... took off a 750 eddy and WAS SHOCKED AT THE DIFFERENCE during startup, idle, and WOT.

I was thinking Demon if I went with the single 850.

Now on the Demons..they offer 'annular' or CFM types...is one appreciably 'better' than the other, they are about the same price. I live in SF and its ALWAYs around 45-70 degrees, medium humidity all year around. basically sea level.

Not likely ole buddy ! I agree the wimpy demon would outpower an eddy but no way will it work better than an HP holley/Proform race series carb.  ;)

I've been around enough Demons (and tried to tune them) to know i don't want one anywhere near my motor.  :rotz:

For the combo outlined above by SFRT.....Performer Rpm dual plane and a Proform 750 dp race series carb would be my choice.  :2thumbs:

i am speaking apples to apples when it comes to comparable price and bolt on and go... of course you can pick another carb to outdo another if you wanna pay

proform race 750:

$100.00 less

will you notice the difference, probably not, and it is just for the street, remember?

mechanical or vacuume secondary?

I would go with the Proform 750 double pumper (mechanical secondaries) and the race version. The Proform carbs are designed for engine combinations that produce low manifold vacuum, which you will have with that Comp 501 cam. The boosters are more sensative and the fuel curve is better suited to your build, inmho.  :yesnod:

The problem with Demon carbs is that they are all over the map when it comes to the fuel curve. Anybody who's ever tuned one on a dyno would agree....takes a lot of work to dial in....if it can be dialed in at all  :P

I specced a Proform 950hp for Mike's (MFR426) 505 street build and when they Dynoed the engine at Ray Barton Racing's shop the comments regarding the build in general and the carb in particular were quite positive. The one comment that stuck was that the carb was perfect right out of the box....no jetting or low speed/high speed bleed adjustments needed. That was a first for them.  :icon_smile_big:

Ya, they work....and work very well  ;)

well, I went ahead and got the proform race mechanical secondary 850 with one of those K&N Extreme low profile air cleaners.

thanks for the input!

you know... i just did it this friday... pulled off my eddy 750 man choke and put a demon right on the 400... hooked up the linkage.. started it up... tuned it in and went

absolutely.. no idling problems, great throttle response, proceeded to drag race all saturday with it without any issues... and i am truly enjoying the hp increase.  sooo... i guess it is your ass?

G-man

Many Demon carburettors have been exorcised into the garbage. They dont stay in tune and cost more than they are worth. More headache than anything and the support is absolutelly gay.

Holley or custom built holleys such as Proform, maybe BIGS aswell. Wouldnt waste time with any other carb, and forget edlebricks. There not made to make power like holleys.

Barry G worked for Holley right  ;)

Seems odd that a holley parts are interchangeable :P

Always heard good stuff about Pro systems custom carbs.

Holley and a screw driver :) way to go.
