E-Coating Pros and cons

So i was talking to the company that will do the acid dipping of my Charger today.
We discussed a little back and forth, and i asked him why he did´nt have a bath for e-coating.
He said that he had been checking this out a lot, since he was in the prosess to get all the equipment needed. He went back on it, and he told me his reason:
The paint used in the e-coating baths are singel stage, since there are thousands of gallons of it in there, and it cant dry. Hence single stage.
The good thing with is of cause that it gets everywhere, in the bath, but he said it is the same stuff that is on new sheet metal parts, and a in his words "cheap crap" compared to epoxy primer. He had also talked to some paint manufacturers about this.
He also said that epoxy primer outside the e-coating would not be as good as epoxy straight on metal. It would "bind " better.

My plan is to media blast the areas i am working on, and when all sheet metal work is done, together with fabrication and mock up, i will acid dip it.
A company just beside where i will be, working on the car, is doing zinc plating ( goldish colored, like on bolts etc)
Their bath is big enough to do the shell, and my plan is to get that done, and then just a thin layer of reaction primer, so epoxy etc.
That should, in theory, be the ultimate rust protection

Any thoughts guys???
Since we only live once, and all this is not just a dressed rehearsal, but the real thing............ Well, enjoy it!!!!

I never paint on top of E coating on replacement panels. E coating is great for protecting all the nooks and crannies but for exterior metal it all gets removed the etch or epoxy primed on the bare metal. It does not stick to the metal very well and scratches flakes off very easily.
Just my preference.

That is exactly the same as he ment , so i guess i am on the right track then.

I had my car dipped and e-coated.

As already stated...the car was fully rubbed down before being properly primed so no e-coat left.

It's a good way of protecting the car while it sits around. Rusting starts imemidiately otherwise.

Not only that but e-coat gets into all the nooks and cranies you never see as does the acid.....got to be better than rust gnawing away.

Now the acid dipper near my area www.Redi-Coat.com  says that they do their e-coating with PPG epoxy primer. So, would'nt this be beneficial being PPG epoxy primer electrostatically applied? It gets permiated into the metals poors. What do you guys think?
