Temperature gauge goes all the way to right

Hello all...

(69 Charger, 440.  Very new to this)

When I turn the key, the temp gauge goes over (gradually, doesn't shoot over or anything) all the way to the right.

It does this before I start the engine, so I am assuming it is instrumentation.  However, I did check everything out and coolant is good, etc.

This is a new development, as it has worked in the past.

What I am I looking at to remedy?

Remove the wire from the sender on the water pump housing (violet wire) , if the gauge doesn't move the sender is faulty; if the gauge still goes full scale there is a short to ground somewhere between the gauge and the sender.

Fantastic...could I trouble you to give me some general guidelines as to where the waterpump is located?

What you looking for is behind the alternator bracket near the heater hoses.

Single wire push on style connector.

I believe my wire is brown... but who knows if that is correct.
