I'm off to go look at a 69 440 HP complete engine and 727 trans.

The guy knows nothing about it, but I will give it a look and possibly drop coin on it.

I'll get the vin on both, and let you guys know.  :yesnod:

Wish me luck.

I want 550 hp out of it, so I'm looking for some proven combos, cam, heads, intake, carb, ext... to get it there.

There are many ways to get to 550 HP but in my opinion the best way is to stroke it. More cubes equals more HP and Tq with far less work for the motor. Saves parts in the long run..

Check out the PROVEN COMBO'S section for some great builds....

I vote to spend big money on a stroker crank setup and some larger aftermarket heads, and then don't max out everything else about the motor.  Don't get crazy with tunnel-rams, high-stall converters, super-low-ass gearing, etc.  The cam & exhaust & carb situation will want to be bigger than stock just because of the added displacement, but still keep it mild in proportion to that change.

It all adds up to less of a hot-rodded motor, and more like just a bigger version of the stock one.  Which means that aside from the extra gas burmed, it'll give you no more headaches than the stock motor either.

Stroking it is the easy way to 550hp/600tq  :yesnod:

There are several buildups in the proven combos forum complete with dyno numbers.  :2thumbs:

Thanks, not sure which way to go yet. I have a budget this time.  :slap:

I took it over to Lonnie's place and we looked up the numbers.

Block
Cast 1/9/69 E 440 HP (3 19 = assembled in 3/19/69)

Trans is matching numbers to the engine.  ;D PK 2892093L (2795 = 3/13/69)
567 trans built that day.

Heads
906

The engine + trans came out of a C body. Like a TNT Chrysler. There is no complete vin on either piece.

Everything looks to be standard, bore and crank. I will take it over to the machine shop today to clean it up and get the specs on everthing.

There is a broken bolt hole where the water pump housing is bolted on.
I hope it if fixable
Pictures later.

I got everything for $800.  :icon_smile_wink:

MOPARHOUND!

The VIN was 9C2xxxxx, which I believe the C stands for the Jefferson Avenue plant in Detroit, MI.  IIRC, this plant built the Chrysler C-bodies (NewYorker, 300) and the Imperials.

*Speed costs money son, how fast do you want to go, and for how long?"
*"Build the biggest engine you can afford the first time."
*"We normally wouldn't use a 383 for this build, parts and labor for a 440 cost the same."

Thanks Lonnie,

I made it to Wellsville, well see if it's ok.

Mat said he might can drill it deeper and tap down to what's left.
